Looking for a factory year 2000 remote control (the peanut shape unit). Would also like the factory 2000 year ignition key. Please PM if you have either. This message has been edited by mjn on 10-19-2023 at 02:03 AM |

Hi MJN, I recently purchased a prowler and wanted some extra keys and fobs. I did have a a fob to start with. There is a number on the back of it, I just searched that number and found them on eBay. That goes the same with the blank keys. I popped down to my local ACE hardware and they cut the keys for a few dollars. I haven't reprogrammed the fobs yet but I did download the instructions from the search option on this site. Hope this helps.... Thanks |

quote: I will add my two cents here regarding keys and fobs... IF you source the blanks with the Cat Logo on them, and want them cut, I would STRONGLY Suggest taking them to a Reputable Locksmith location to have them cut. IF you have an Owners Manual for your car, you will find instructions for programming the fobs in it. Keep in mind, you need to have at least one working fob. There is a time limit that must be adhered to and up to four fobs can be programmed to operate the car. P.S. (Look down about 15 replies and you will find instructions Robin on posted 05-02-2014 05:41 PM) This message has been edited by alrtg on 10-19-2023 at 08:22 AM |

I have a used one that you can have. Are you in the southern part of Dayton or north? We are just inside the I-275 loop a couple of miles and about 2 miles west of I-75. South of Winton Woods Park, and Greenhills, OH. Do you get down this way at all? |

I have never owned a 2000 but have had every other year. The 97s and 99s had the square remotes. The number on the back of my peanut one is p/n 04686481 AC I think. It says Daimler Chrysler but no star on it anywhere. |

My 2001 only had one key and fob Andria had 2 extra peanut fobs and kindly sent them to me when I was asking about getting another fob I had read about programming & issues others had So printed instructions out and read several times before attempting You MUST HAVE a functioning fob to program a new one Well it took me several tries and of the 2 Andria sent could only get one to program NOTE: once you start programming you have limited time and MUST PROGRAM the original fob as well as the replacement Have planned on taking the non functional fob to get checked in case it isn’t working Had put new batteries in before starting so I knew it wasn’t bad battery’s Got a couple extra keys cut so at least I have 2 working fobs & keys Would like to get another key with logo cat in the black plastic top ------------------ |

While you are getting keys made I would get an extra spare and hide it somewhere under the car where you can get to it. I have been to two events where someone locked their keys in their car. Could you imagine being the one? LOL |

Good advice. At the last event we were the one that locked ourselves out. I purposely left my keys in the ignition at one of our regathering locations so we could make a quick getaway. The hardtop was on and the windows roiled up. Linda decided to get out of the car and bumped the door lock switch while supporting herself getting out. Her set of keys were in her purse inside the car. A coat hanger and help from friends (especially Steve Clark) and we weren’t too far behind. We caught up with the tail end of the group just before the next stop. Fortunately both Steve and I like to drive fast. |

Pretty much had similar issue as Rich Sue wanted to help as I put car in trailer Car running, light rain so windows up & extra keys in Sues purse , she got out & locked the car……. We were right there lined up to load in the trailer I try & carry extra key anytime we go out of town just in case Thankfully Bob Longstreth & Tom Mills came to the rescue in the trailer lot down from the hotel ------------------ |
