Prowler friends with all the answers, Please help if you can.... A few months ago on an Arizona Prowler cruise to Payson I got some engine sputter when getting on the accelerator a bit. Luckily I was with great prowler friends, all slowed down to let me asses the situation and we decided to go into Payson. At that time, not knowing a root cause I was advised to disconnect the battery to eliminate the check engine light. For the rest of the trip no sputter and no engine light. Of course I drove more like grandpa moses than I would have normally. Bottom line when cold or warming up I can accelerate aggresively and have not negative response. But once The engine is warmed up real nice, if I try to get in slightly agressive I get a sputter (somewhat like a backfire) and the check engine light comes one. I have tried using some gas/fueline additives but still have the same warm engine response. Thanks for your help Lil red doesn't like to sit in the garage.... |

Dave - you might want to contact Dan Pena in California and ask for his ideas. Mention your cat has the Paxton unit,,,,,maybe he will read your post here? Its not good to keep that fire breathing cat in the garage so long |

davidjhunter, I had a similar condition back in the days. Review my site for details of that event. They checked out the check engine light and they came up with a "Mis Fire" and "Vacuum Leak" error. The dealer wrote on my service slip. RAN COMPUTER SCAN AND VERIFIED ENGINE MISFIRE AT #6 CYLINDER- TRACED SYSTEM AND FOUND COIL #6 DRIVER WIRES NOT SEATED INTO PCM BOARD. REPAIRED CONNECTION AND REPLACED FOULED OUT #6 SPARK PLUG. RECHECKED AND SYSTEM OPERATION NORMAL AFTER REPAIR. It is possible you might have a COIL going bad or something as simple as the wires losing connection at the COILs right above your spark plugs. Double check your spark plug coil overs are fully seated and the clip to the COILS are fully inserted and locked into the clips. Have them do a OBDII scan see if they come up with anything. Good luck. ------------------ |

Check your battery cable. I was having the same kind of a problem from time to time and after the cable was fixed it has not happened. |

Hi, I have been involved with performance cars since the 60's and I can remember at least 3 instances where the ignition coil partially failed at higher temperatures. They acted as though some of the internal windings shorted out and the output voltage dropped to the point where it was not enough to fire the plugs when under load (but operated fine when cold). In short, very similar to the symptoms you are experiencing. Hope this helps. -Jim (Y2k Silver) |
