...at a traffic light in Autostick this morning. It would go up but not back down to 1st. I put it in "D" and it took off in 2nd gear. I put it back in Autostick and it has shifted fine since. Is this just a single electronic occurrence or for those that have cars go into "limp" mode, is this a sign of worse things to come? ------------------ |

Marty, limp mode puts it in second and that is where it will stay until it is fixed or you cheat and disconnect the battery. I don't think it is a precursor to a bigger problem for you. Probably an anomaly. |

Marty, Check your fluid level. If fluid is ok and it happens again check codes in TCM. |

Marty, sorry, I skipped the space between an and omaly, an omaly. Much shorter word, at least by two or three letters. |

I just checked fluid level at last oil change and know it was full then. I'll check it tonight. I am hoping it just a one time thing (an anomoly according to Ed) and doesn't happen again. |

Marty - I had the exact same thing happen to me about 3 months ago. Has been fine since. There is a possibility my fluid is low. I know I have a leak at the top cooler hose at the cooler. I need to check my fluid as well. Let us know what you find, if anything. And if you have those little black particulates in your fluid... |

quote: CJ - can you approach DC for me. It would be gfreat if they could fund my driving as long term R & D. Considering the previous nitrous use and the 10,000 miles with the additional torque from the stroker motor, and 83,000 miles of "pampered" driving, I think the tranny has held up well. HOpefully yesterday's experience was just an anomoly. (right Ed?) |

Would replacing the tranny input/ or output sensors help? |

MINE DOES THAT ONCE IN A WHILE I HAVE NOTICED IT SEEMS TO NOT DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR WHEN I AM GOING SLOW IN SECOND FOR A WAYS AND THEN COME TO A REAL SLOW STOP....ITS LIKE THE SENSORS DONT REALIZE IT IS IN SECOND BECAUSE IT NEVER REACHED A CERTAIN RPM??? JUST AN OBSERVATION.. ------------------ |

quote: If you downshift manually you'll maybe know why it does that. If you downshift from 3rd to second, the revs match at 40 MPH....But shifting down from 2nd to 1st, the revs don't match until you are below 12 MPH!!! So you may be crawling at 15 MPH, but it's still too fast for the tranny to want to automatically downshift to 1st. Usually it won't drop to 1st until you are at a dead stop only for the purpose of pulling away in first. I think it's a self-preservation trick the tranny uses so you don't "burn out" first gear...so to speak. |
