Ok...trying to get some info for a friend. He was told he needs to replace the oxygen sensors on his 2001 Stratus RT. The dealer is telling him 2 of them are bad, and it is going to cost around $400 to do the job. Knowing how I speak of the great assistance I receive here, he asked if I could find out:
1. Is that a fair price for the job?
2. If he were to purchase the oxygen sensors, is it a difficult job to do?
3. They told him there were 4 sensors(2 bad). Is there a way to tell which of the 4 are bad?

Thanks in Advance
Dan

Dan, the o2 sensors for the 3.5 cost about $176 ea, without discount. They are not hard to replace but the dealer should show him or tell him which ones are bad. The ones before the cat converter usually fail first but that means nothing. I believe he shoulsd make some inquiries about the diagnosis and then check with a Mopar Parts person that may give him a discout. May be the exact same part # as the 3.5's.

I had one go bad on an Intrepid and the local garage mechanic said they should replace two but I could get by with just replacing one. He hooked up a gauge and I drove it for about 5 miles to make sure he had the correct one. It was pricey and that was 5 or 6 years ago.
