Was there ever any redesign or change in the low tire warning system between the early model and the later models, or are the warning system parts interchangeable between years? Example: If I buy a set of 2001 chrome rims with tires, etc and put them on a 99, will it work? Thanks. |

From "The Prowler Story" on the Home Page: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ August 2001 Prowler model year 2002 begins with Silver . . . . The run flat tire sensors in each tire and the receiver are changed to match newer technology used in other Chrysler products. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sounds like the system changed in August 2001 for the 2002 model year. -GRROWL |

Tom - good question. My new tires and wheels came from another silver 2000. When changed over, the low tire sensor light is now on. The problem will have to wait for now, as I have other things keeping me busy (out of state company). GRROWL, maybe you can get us the answer? Thanks ------------------

OK, AC, I think I answered lavka's question - yes, the 2001 parts should be compatible with a 1999 (according to "The Prowler Story). However, you'll both have an additional hurdle. The sensors work by sending out a radio signal. Each sensor has a unique identity telling which wheel it is on. Per the manual, a DRBIII scan tool is required to reprogram the receiver for all of the sensors even if only one was replaced: "If a low tire pressure warning module fails, or one or more tire pressure sensor/transmitters fail, after replacement, the low tire pressure warning module's diagnostic memory must be cleared and reprogrammed. This is necessary for the module to detect which wheel is sending the signal." Sounds like a dealer issue, wouldn't think Goodyear could handle it. -GRROWL |

AC, After reading my Prowler manual which arrived yesterday, I know exactly what the problem is with your kat. Assuming the transmitters in the tires are working correctly for the new rims and tires you put on the Kat, here's how to fix your problem: The transmitters in the tires transmit the pressure to the main module under the dashboard along with a unique identifier code. Each transmitter in the tires has a different unique code and allows the prowler tech (endangered species) to hook up a ODBIII scan tool and see which wheel sent the information that activated the low tire light. That way if you have one bad sensor they can zero in on the bad one without replacing all four. The unique identifiers for the four sensors on each Kat have to be manually programed into non-volatile memory through the ODBII connection, thus when you change to different rims having different transmitters, the transmitter ID codes from your old rims have to be manually cleared from memory with the ODBII tool, and the new codes programmed in. Then your low tire light will go off. Disconnecting the battery will not work because this portion of memory is different than the trouble code memory and stays put even with no battery power. Right now your system is recieving the transmissions from your rims but does not agree with the data because the ID codes don't match what you had before. How's that for a mouse trap with 101 moving parts? Can't even change a rim on the Kat without a scan tool and a service manual... |

They calibrate the tire sensors with this magnet one tire at a time. The magnet forces the sensor to transmit a continuous data stream to the onboard computer.

Thanks guys, your information was fast and informative. So then, its a dealer service department matter and a Goodyear store can't help me, right? ------------------

dpena, Neato keen! Do you recommend this scan tool for home use? If so, would appreciate details (make, model, purchase info, advice, etc.) Thanks. -GRROWL |

AC, Well, you know that the dealer has the right scanner and the magnet that dpena noted is required. A full-service Goodyear may. It's been reported that AutoZone provides free diagnostic scans, don't know about the programming or whether they would have the magnet. Let the rest of us know what you find out. Thanks. -GRROWL |
