Last month I bought a red 99' with 2,000 miles. I'm having more fun then I deserve and have already logged 2,500 more miles. The roads in North Texas are lousy and it rides pretty rough (at least for an old guy like me). I had heard that they smoothed out the 2000 model with softer springs and redesigned tires from Goodyear. Any truth to this, or has anybody come up with an aftermarket suspension kit? Thanks, |

Congratulations on your new cat, Jeff. Welcome to the POA board. Great to have another new voice on the forum. The 2000 models were improved with regard to the suspension and the ride. I have a 99 Black cat. My husband brought home a 2000 Silver for me to drive one weekend (he is an exec at DC) and the ride was definitely better. However, I never considered the ride of my 99 offensive.....seemed more like the old hot rod ride!!! I'm not sure about aftermarket suspension kit (the guys will definitely let you know about that), but there is a way that you can improve your 99 with DC parts, also. We have discussed this before, and I guess I should have done a search before I started this post. I will do a search for you and see if I can find it again. Again, welcome to POA!! CJ |

Hey Jeff- My '99 also beats me, but I still love it no matter the ride. I have heard a few guys have taken the '00 suspension parts and replaced the '99 parts to get the newer, softer ride. Also, Goodyear did change the compound material for the tires also which is one main reason for the ride difference. I'm sure that ProwlerMan(GaryC) will reply to you later today as I think he had a late night.

Hi Jeff , I am a prowler tech. I live in Dallas. I have done some research on the Cats supension . The 97 cat road like a buckboard wagon .Most of this is shocks , coil spring over shock. The shocks are set at a certain poundage to depress . Chryler has soften these in later models. I will check more to see what poundage yours is at and what years are softer. The shocks come as a unit , coil spring already on. |

I bought a 99, it's rougher than my 00, first thing I did was lower the air pressure all the way around 26 lbs. big difference the next thing I am going to do it get rid of the run flats, now think on this, a tire with no air can go 50 or 60 miles, the side wall has to be stiff to do this, it holds the car up. THAT IS ONE STIFF RIDING TIRE. 99.9999999999999999999999999999% of all other tires are not runflats. That is the ride that you are use to. So when BFG comes out with their new NON runflat tire, that is what I am putting on. When that time comes and I will post something tell you how much better it rides and handles. Hope I helped. They changed the suspension and tires for the 2000 model year. Changing to the latter suspension and lowering the rear tire pressure to 28# net at least 85% of the ride improvement. You need to repalce the front and rear coil over shock assemblies plus the four rear upper lateral links. The links are a very important part of the ride improvement. The frame has to be relieved slightly to clear the larger diameter attachments. You absolutely must be realign the rear suspension BEFORE driving the vehicle. If you don't want to spent the money, try lowering the rear tire pressure to 28# and driving the car for a while. SoCal Speed Shop was working on a ride improvement package I'm not sure of the status. Their car was in energy Suspension's booth at SEMA. |
