With the motor running and a VOM across the battery terminals I am reading 11.91 volts.
Sunday when I was driving home from a cruise my check gauge light came on. I noticed the volt gauge was reading below 12 volts. When I got home I turned the Kat off and then on. The check gauge light went off but the volt gauge still reads below 12 volts. Battery is new (less than 6 months)and is kept on a battery tender.
Is it possible the alternator clutch went bad. Where is the best place to get a new or rebuilt alternator.

Thomas, The easy way to test this...Start your Prowler, Then disconnect either one of the battery cables. If the car continues to run, the Alternator is GOOD. If the engine dies out, Replace the alternator, They are available thru most auto parts stores. They run appox $ 180.00 exchange.

One other thing to look at is the positive wire on the alternator itself. There have been several that have burnt off at the wire connector at the alternator. New wire end and good to go.

the alt.wire is a fusible link,if you replace make sure you get the same size wire.you can tell if the fusible link has gotten hot,it will have a burned look to it.replace both, end and link

Jan, The ones I have repaired have all been the connector only, fusible link is still good. Not sure what the cause is, as the nut is tight, unless the factory crimp was not good.

Done, alternator repaired. Don't want to do it again.
I tested the alternator at the battery output lead like catfish said and got 11.91 volts, thus proving I had a bad clutch at the alternator pully.
I changed the clutch to a pully and I am good to go.
Total cost $24.00.
