The number on my invoice for the seals was 19-2267-DL The dealer ordered them, so I am assuming they came from Ajax? I didn't need to replace the bearings. |

Thanks Dave, David & Eric, I got the bearings ok but I can.t seem to find the seals. the dealer says the # I gave them is no good as they have no info on the trailer. I don't want to take my seals out til I have new seals. I've never had any luck removing seals and using them over. |

Let us know what you find on the seals. Part #, location, cost. I'm looking at doing my trailer soon as well. I've greased bearings on cars before... wheel off, nut off, rotor off, remove seal, get bearings out and regrease, reverse install. I wasn't aware trailers have 2 - inner and outer. What's all involved in doing trailer bearings? How many seals per wheel? Anyone have step by step pics? |

Got the bearings at O'Reilly yesterday National brand #A4 Bearing & race together. You can also buy the bearing & race separately but it cost more & I was always taught to change both as a set. Cost about $9.00 a set. I bought 2 sets just to have. Mine are ok I just want to repack and reseal. Going to get seals today. Just thought somebody would have the # here. There's 2 sets per side inner & outer are the same. Also 2 seals 1 per side inside of course. I'll post the seal part # later today. It shouldn't be that hard to find. The ones in the hubs now say Tiawan, If I have to go over there it will be a few days!!!!!!! |

Are you guys having bearing failures or just doing preventive maintenance? How many miles if you are having problems? |

This is the first trailer I've had. I have always heard that (especially if it sits for a while) you should be sure to repack the bearings before a trip. Mine was used fairly regular by the previous owner going to shows, but I have only used mine once for a show (Apr. 08) since I got it in Aug. 07. I wanted to take it to another show next month as well to Branson. No known issues that I know of. ivegotsugar also has one that was never used (no known issues with hers either). I'm planning on doing mine, but she isn't planning on doing hers. Strickly preventative maintenance here. Any thoughts on this issue? Do I really need to repack the bearings? Does she? |

Mickey: If you don't know the history of your trailer; how many miles it's been pulled and if through water, etc., then it's really just good and easy (and fairly cheap) preventive maintenance to service your trailer's wheel bearings..... then you know what you have as a basis to perform future maintenance. Being a Prowler trailer has a single axle (no "extreme" sideways pressures on the bearings as with a multi-axle suspension), that they don't carry heavy loads (1000 pounds gross), that they don't have brakes (heat issue) and that they do run full-size wheels (bearings spin much slower than with tiny wheels), this maintenance is very similar to what the front wheel bearings of a conventional rear wheel drive vehicle (and same as the trailing wheels of a front wheel drive) should receive. If I had a trailer that I knew its history to be that it was never or seldom used, I'd likely not worry about repacking, etc. JMO This message has been edited by hotroddaddy on 03-23-2009 at 10:07 PM |
