So I'm cruising into work this morning in the Prowler, about 5 miles from the office the transmission starts shifting weird. Sure enough next thing I know I am in second gear and can't get out of it. Autostick does not respond at all, doesn't even light up the gear. Takes a few minutes for the engine light to come on. I nurse it to the office and make a call to River Oaks Chrysler since they are very close to my office. I talk to the Prowler tech and we both agree it is probably the input and/or output sensors. I tell him I will be over as soon as I can. When I get back in the car it is shifting fine but the engine light is still on. I consider trying to drive it the 30 miles home to my regular dealer but decide not to chance it and stop at River Oaks. Of course, the Prowler tech has just stepped out to lunch so it will be an hour before he can even look at it. So, I walk across the street to grab a bite myself and about 1 1/2 hours later they call and say nothing is wrong w/ the car and I can come get it. I talk to the prowler tech and he said he drove it and it shifted fine for him (like it did for me as I drove it up). He said he put in on the computer and "saw codes he had never seen before". He reset everything and set me on my way. If is shifting ok for me to start but I put it in autostick and the gear indicator what jump back and forth between 1 and whatever gear I am actually in. Of course 10 miles later the engine light comes on and 5 miles after that I am back in limp mode. Autostick does not respond but indicates I am in 3rd. So, I literaly limp it back to my regular dealer where it now sits waiting to be diagnosed. So I guess my question is...should I MAKE them replace the sensors even if they say nothing is wrong? Any suggestions? -Pete ------------------ |

Definitely take it back, or to someone who knows what they are doing. If there were codes in the computer that "he had never seen before" he should have followed up on it to figure out the problem. Resetting the computer and sending you on your way will only delay getting the problem addressed. No telling what other issues will creep up in the meantime that are a result of not fixing this correctly the first time. This really irks me because dealers, in the past, have done the same thing to me and created a much larger and more expensive fix than it would have been, if they had taken the time a effort to correctly fix it the first time. ------------------ |

I just got a call from my regular dealer. Says it is the TCM. Unfortunately they won't have the part until Monday or Tuesday. Good thing I had already decided not to enter it in the Hooters Car Show on Sunday. At least they promised to keep it indoors while they have it. -Pete ------------------ |

Pete, it "generally" has not been the TCM with this problem but it is possible.. Most of the owners that have experienced this, I'm one of them, it has been the Input or Output sensor on the transaxle.. It is not that expensive and someone posted how to replace it yourself.. Now the tech may be correct but If I were you I'd contact Kozican (Don Ward) and get the dealer's number which he has found to have a certified Prowler Tech there... Just some thoughts for a Houston neighbor... ------------------ |

I still think the Dealers are Bone Yard Junkies who should not be able to touch a Prowler. I posted the following a month ago and got slammed for my thoughts. Well we all don't have a dealer in our pockets and if you buy from Chrysler you better have him in there deep. When are we going to get the Tech. who knows what he/she is doing at the dealers. Is it any wonder North American car sales are down.
I seem to remember some of you talking about this sometime ago, any thoughts or knowledge on this? I am trying to work with the Dealer on this because we have 5-10 Prowler owners in the area and would like to find someone to work on our warranty issues. The other day I took the Kat in so they could verify my OS Sensor problem that was found by my own Tech. Darren and the next thing you know 2 of them were about to take "HER" out for a test drive. RIGHT!! Told them "out of the car" and do the check by revving the car to 2,000 rpm and checking the pre catalytic sensor on the computer. Said it was not to bad and would not fix the problem. I noticed it more after I replaced my spark plugs. At about 2,800rpm or 130km/hr the Kat was making slight vibrations in the gas peddle and lacked a punch when I hit the gas. ------------------ |

My '5-star' dealer does NOT have a Prowler Tech... I asked about this, he said he 'had' one, and that person was now gone... and he could NOT send anyone now as DC no longer offers this training ????? Anyone know if this info is correct, in that dealers cannot get someone trained now that mfg has ceased? Thanks! ------------------ |

Well, both of these dealers say they have Prowler Techs. And neither will let anybody but the tech touch the car. The competency level of them remains to be seen though. If the replaced TCM doesn't do the trick, I will just buy the sensors and replace them myself. -Pete ------------------ |
