IMO every school district in this country should be mandated to immediately hire a full time armed, deputized security officer for each and every building in their school district. Each officer needs to be fully trained as a police officer and subject to the same criteria as a deputy sheriff.... The cost of this should be assessed and added to whatever taxation method that is currently in place...No voting and no debating....NOW! Additionally, at least one teacher in each building should be designated to be trained in the use of firearms as a back up to the officer in extreme cases... Not tomorrow, not after we debate or vote on it.....NOW!!! |

Here in the Evansville/Vanderburgh School District (including the Libraries) we have that already in place. |

My wife a teacher is all for being armed herself, right now they are told to lock the door to the class and hide in a corner. If the bad person want access all he needs to do is break the glass window. They do have police in the lobby but they like most people get complacent, anyone can walk in and shoot the cop and he wouldn't have even made eye contact with you. They need to keep all doors liocked and obly allow access by invitation/appointment, then have the officer escort the person to a secured location. |

The first time an innocent gets shot from friendly fire that will be the end of that. Wether it be in a school, mall, church or movie theatre it's just as tragic. While the NRA fights to let people own assault weapons we sit back and watch our citizens get slaughtered. These are not gangs and criminals doing this, it's the guy next door, the one everyone thought was a nice guy, just quiet. All the schools should have classroom doors that automatically lock when closed with small windows with security wire in them so you can't reach in and open the door from the inside. This would give some level of protection to those inside. Schools can't be prisons with armed guards walking around. Nobody wants to live in that kind of fear. Screw everyone's right to bear arms, it's not 1776 anymore. |

When you sit there and watch little Johnny play his video game of killing people with different types of guns and weapons.................and think "it's innocent fun" Think again. These games have repercussions with them. They desensitize a person’s thinking BETWEEN right and wrong. Not to mention taking God out of his life “thou shall not kill” just sets the stage. Put prayer back in school. Put “Pledge of Allegiance” back in school. Wait for it……..put “PARENTS” back in their lives. Anybody notice a common denominator in the guys doing this. They all go commando style, hence, video games. |

It doesn't matter what laws you pass on guns. If you can't stop illegals and drugs from crossing the border, what makes you think you will ever stop guns once they are outlawed. I agree that young people playing thousands of hours of violent video games can be a big problem. I bet most criminals who commit a crime with a gun never bought it legally. |

quote: I agree 100% with adacus. I am convinced these violent video games along with the failure of the family unit are the true root cause of these killings. The latest ones now have flying body parts. Now the jennie is out of the bottle. When you went to high school did you ever think about mass murder? Did you ever hear any one speak of mass murder? We will always have the 'one off' lost soul (Texas A&M), but todays gen has lost touch with reality! Kill video games, texting, e-mail, all pull you away from human contact, reality, and dealing with life. |

quote: Also change what we watch on TV, Shootings, stabbing & all sorts of killings. Then there are shows like CSI that show a criminal how to hide his tracks. Go back the way TV use to be in the 50s & 60s...They were all comedy or Cowboy & Indian movies. I sure do not remember any violence on the Andy Griffith show or I Dream of Jeanie, or any other show back then. Kids today watch the video games & TV & think it's OK to kill for kicks, They have put no value on life. This message has been edited by phil2237 on 12-18-2012 at 11:12 AM |

I agree with a lot of this...... This world has become so desensitized with all the violence and wars going on in the world, violent movies and video games. These video games like Call of Duty, show people being shot, falling down dead and getting back up to be killed again. In the real world, you don't get back up if you are shot dead. How can young people understand the consequences of things like that? Why do movies have to be so violent? When the Sandy Hook massacre happened, a minister said that people are asking, "why did God let this happen?" His answer was that God was not allowed in school anymore. Not everyone believes in God, there are many different religions whose Gods may be different, but we also took "God" out of the schools. Nativities can't be displayed without "offending" people. This world has become nuts. It's like we say here...if you don't like a post or a forum, don't look at it or read it. If you don't like something, ignore it, but just because one person or a group doesn't like it then it has to be banned?? You can say Happy Holiday back to me when I say Merry Christmas to you and that's fine, but I will still say it. If a person is determined to kill someone they will use guns, knives, bombs, anything they can. It's not about just guns. We do not have mental health facilities anymore. I heard a women call into a talk show who said she has an adopted daughter in her late teens who has a mental problem and who has been severely violent since she was 18 months old. She's afraid of her. Her insurance only covers 90 days of mental health care which is certainly not enough. When asked, she said she would absolutely have her in a mental health facility where she could get help with people who are trained to deal with mental health. There are a lot of things that need changing. How sad this world is. |

Thanks all the above. That is why I do not watch TV or go to movies. In addition, almost 20 minutes of every hour are devoted to "stupid" commercials. Now you know why I spend so much time on the Prowler site. |

Banning a certian type of gun(assalt rifle) because of the way it looks, is just another knee jerk reaction to try and find blame or an excuse for why something happened, so we can feel better about ourselfs. Guns are not to blame, it is the person behind that gun is to blame. Cars do not kill people, but drunk drivers in cars do, therefore ban cars. How about banning cars that look sporty or like hot rods. We all know that they could kill innocent people. I don't know how many of you remember the University of Texas tower shooting in 1966, but one man with a bolt action, single shot hunting rifle with a scope,(not an assualt rifle), killed 16 people and wounded 31. Where was the outcry then to band hunting rifles?? Back then, everyone assumed responsability for their actions, not trying to find fault or excuses with something else... |

Interesting Gallup poll.... As I understand it, the Principal responded to the entrance when the gunman had begun shooting his way in. She was probably the first one killed... What if she had a revolver in her desk and grabbed that before heading to the disturbance (gunfire)? Do you think that if she had been trained in the use of firearms the result may have been different? Or what if the school had a police officer on duty? .....It certainly couldn't have turned out any worse |

Unfortunately there are people in this world that live a sheltered life that don't value the ability to defend themselves with deadly force if necessary. Its too bad you don't hear very many stories of self defense shootings in the news. I guarantee that if any gun grabbers get a gun pulled on them or get shot one day it will change their mind. That's why I NEVER leave home without a handgun on me, and I don't plan on starting. |

banning guns in this country will never happen.i sure wish id had one that day.i dont carry one here in az,but it is allowed with a permit.they have been talking about banning them, since the 60s that i can remember.as was said along long time ago,if they ban guns the only ones left with them will be the criminals.i agree, its to bad you dont hear much, when a citizen nails a criminal and shoots him dead.those people defending themselves should get a medal.more power to them. ------------------ |
