I'm looking for ways to make it easier to raise and lower my prowler trailer on Larry Lord's trailer stand. The stand itself works fine; the problem is the weight requires at least two people to raise it into the upright position. Two people is hard enough, and not good for my back. I was thinking of getting a winch to install on the wall behind it, but so far any I am finding are either way more powerful than I need and expensive, or they are DC powered units that have to use the car battery (I would prefer something I can just plug into the garage wall outlet). What have others done for this? |

The solution my Dad used was to install a boat winch in conjunction with a couple of pulleys. The winch was mounted on the wall at a comfortable height for him with the cable going through a pulley that was securely mounted to the roof rafters. He then attached the end of the cable to the trailer tongue and simply cranked it up. Once it was up, I think he probably left the cable attached as a safety in case the trailer got bumped, it would not fall down. He may see this and add to this. |

Kool, Harbor Freight makes a overhead 110volt Crain. Don't know it's capacity offhand. But it's worth looking into. Steve |

Those little Harbor Freight hoists work great, I have had one for years. I use it to lift my zero radius mower to clean the mower deck. I have a piece of pipe across a couple of rafters and it does the trick. |

Thanks for the replies. The Harbor Freight option looks promising. My garage has the ceiling drywalled, but I have attic space above where I think I could support it by adding a steel pole across the trusses to hang it from. I'll just need to cut a hole in the drywall. |

Enzvoy, it looks like you have it attached vertically to the wall. I looked up the manual online and it didn't look like that was an option. Your ceiling design looks like you were able to mount it ahead of trailer. I won't be able to do that, but maybe I could just mount it directly into the ceiling joist behind the drywall, so it is better positioned for pulling it up. At what location on the trailer do you attach the hook? |

when going up I attach it to the tongue and when it gets to a certain point I help it out I have it on the stand when it sits there ,just in case

Thanks for the closeups. I assume the pipe behind it was your addition and it's just hanging from that pipe. I have a ceiling joist above the trailer and maybe I could do the same. I feel more comfortable purchasing this knowing how others have used it. |

yes ,attaching the pipe was necessary so I could attach it to the wall properly, the hoist doesn't move at all |

I kept things very simple when I attached a pully to the ceiling which is dry walled. I found a ceiling joyce just above where I wanted the pulley, cut a small hole on each side of the joyce and slid a chain around the joyce and attached the pulley to it. An inexpensive manual boat winch worked for an old guy lik3 me. |

 I don't recall the exact measurement but I believe it's about 2" from the wall when the roll back tubes are against the wall. ------------------ |

Well I got a package from Harbor Freight yesterday, but the wrong product. The shipping label has the correct item on it, but the box was a three shelf rolling cart and said so on several places on the box. Wow. Called Harbor Freight and they sent me a new shipping label for FedEx to pick up today. They expect me to call them again when FedEx picks it up. Not much in the way of an apology. When I make that call I will be asking for a discount for my trouble. Will see if they go along with my request. |

Good to see you have it all figured out Pat. My Harbor Freight hoist works great, my only complaint is on hot summer days it drips oil from the gearbox onto my car windshield below. I doesn't drip much and isn't worth trying to fix. My wife puts a towel on the windshield to collect the drip. |
