The '99 is scheduled for this coming Monday to get its recall done for the lower ball joints. Do they usually do a front alignment with this job at no extra cost? Want to be prepared for the news. R. |

I would say no. They didn't on mine. Doesn't hurt to ask. |

I doubt they will do an alignment, but one is recommended, If you have the alignment done, make sure you do a front and rear alignment |

They never did one on mine either, and I've never had it done. 53000 miles with original tires still good. |

Changing ball joints do not usually change the settings. If your tires are wearing even , you can leave it alone. Any unevenness in tires though should have a 4 wheel alignment. Keep an eye on the rears, as if the bushings start to wear out, you will see uneven wear on the rears. But after these cars have reached 17 to 20 years old, might be a good idea to have it done |

Phil is correct. An alignment is not specified in the factory TSB. BUT.....make sure and tell the tech that the factory service manual and the factory TSB have INCORRECT TORQUE VALUES for the upper ball joint nut. BY the way the TSB has you removing the upper ball joint along with the bottom so you have the knuckle divorced completely. That is not necessary. The job can be done without doing so and IMO is a waste of time. I guess it will depend on the person doing the job. |

In 18 years nobody at a Chrysler dealership ever did the recall on those ball joints. Any good dealer checks recalls on a regular basis as cars come in. That is poor customer service in my book |

quote: The car may have never been back to a dealer. I have 2 pickup trucks over 13 years now, and for the first time, I had to take my Dodge in for the Air Bag recall. I received a letter in the mail about the recall. I have owned my Prowler since new, and have never received any letter in the mail for the ball joints recall. Only found out about the ball joints thru POA |

I've had mine since 2000. I don't remember the exact point in time but I did get a recall notice regarding the BJ's. However I blew it off at the time because it was deemed that boot failures were responsible for the BJ failures. And the boot failures were caused by certain weather conditions. None of which were here in California. The weather might accelerate the boot failures but for the most part we all know that the BJ's can fail with the boots in tact. We just have two problems. Both center around the same item. |
