I decided that it was time for a new paint scheme for my Inca Kat. Using the Woodward and Black Tie Editions as inspiration, I had my Kat painted satin black over gold. Note the removal of the head restraints from the seats and the trunk mounted third brake light from the trunk area, along with the addition of shorty chrome exhaust tips. These changes give my Kat the classic 1950s hot rod style that I am looking for. I know that those of you who are in the "keep it factory stock" group will not care for what I have done with my Kat, but what about the rest of you? I welcome all comments and opinions, whether positive or negative[Catfish?]. I think I have created my own one-of-a-kind Special Edition Inca Kat and I like the result. Happy prowling everyone! |

Personally, I'd prefer gloss black, but more importantly .... Is it just the picture, or do I see the 'repaired holes' from the 3rd brake light? Does your state have safety inspections that require the 3rd brake light or side markers? |

My opinion is I would paint the wheel centres to match and also blacken that chassis piece in front of the rear wheel. Just a square of black vinyl would do it. Perhaps loose those rear arch guards too. I'm also curious why you didn't have it wrapped? But then you did have it wrapped, didn't you? Otherwise if its the look your after, well done. Dare to be different. Don't be a sheep! This message has been edited by Dave Haggas on 08-23-2014 at 03:59 PM |

Silverkat, I used over half of the money I had set aside for a hardtop to pay for the paint job. Hardtop to come later. Alprowl, there are no state safety inspections in Florida and no requirements for side marker lights or third brake lights. And, yes I used black plastic plugs to plug the holes in the trunk lid. I was going to have the holes welded over but decided to keep them and the third brake light in case I would like to return to stock at a later date. I also have the head restraints which can be reinstalled if I so choose. |

Yes a black hardtop would be killer . Murder out the tail lights too. Just a suggestion. |

Looks real sharp. And I like the satin black! I'd try Plasti-dip black the chrome side panel vents to see what it would look like. You can always easily remove the Plasti-Dip. Center cap too. Or you could get bold and try painting them gold. I wish more owners would venture out on the limb with some painting personalizations. |

Very nice. I have the orange with the carbon fiber wrap in honor of the woodward. I like your personal touches. Well done. Robin |

The trunk lid is aluminum. Probably pretty hard to weld that and have it look perfect so you probably made the right decision with the plugs. |

Ed, I was told by someone who is an all purpose welder that the trunk lid is very thin aluminum and if welded would not have come out perfectly flat. So the plugs serve the purpose for now and I can always remount the third brake light whenever I want. Also, in response to all that suggested that I black out the center caps, I had all black wheels on a BMW that I owned prior to getting my Kat and it seemed that the black wheels and tires looked like just a black blob from any distance away. The chrome center caps give definition to the wheels and also match the chrome side vents and exhaust tips along with the chrome transmission cooler cover. |

You ask, here is my opinion I like chrome and shine, that said, if you like it then it is right for you. I think gloss black would be better As far as the wheels, well there is nothing like chrome. Have them on my Dart Crager SS, Prowler, stock wheels chromed and my daily driver 2007 Mustang 18" x 9" dd and 18" x 10" dd chrome bullet wheels. I love chrome Now you have already painted your wheels and looking would guess your center caps are chrome. Others have suggested painting. I would suggest doing vinyl wrap. Then if you ever wanted a set of chrome caps peel the wrap and you have it. YOU could do it a little different from the wheel color for some contrast. I'm not a fan of carbon fiber but might look good on the center caps. Get someone to do a gold pinstripe on the wheel close to the tire bead Or trade someone for a set of the silver caps for the painted wheels. be carful on doing much more remember KISS and not talking about the band, keep it simple s....d But the most important thing is you are happy with it ------------------ This message has been edited by WildCat on 08-23-2014 at 07:26 PM |

WildCat, most Prowler chrome wheels have peeling problems on the inside barrels, mine were no exception. After powder coating, no more problem. Of course, I wanted black wheels and not chrome for my paint scheme. |

Alprowl, Maybe you were very lucky to find a very skilled aluminum welder or maybe it isn't all that hard. I really don't know. I know my trunk got dented and I was told to forget about repairing it by a few diff. body men. |

Any good TIG welder can weld thin aluminum. With a hole, you need a dissimilar back-up material. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q4ZeN9-v-k |

I like it, especially the black wheel since I have mine for 6-7 years now. I have thought about maybe doing something with a wrap but still like my car the way it is and especially if I get off my butt and have some parts that are waiting to go on the car painted. |

It looks good! Here is what is important..that YOU are happy with it. This is part of the joy of "customizing" your car. I have a few cars that I have done major changes to and some people say "love it" and some say "that's horrible". But when I was doing it, I did it cause I liked it, and whatever anyone else thinks about my tastes does not really matter to me. Take your car out and show it with pride...awesome changes that make it "one of a kind" and that is what sets it apart from all the others |
