Looks like Fiat is about ready to own more of Chrysler and eventually 51%.

As former Chrysler management I say better them than the union or government!

My only grip with Fiat management is the total lack of information on current and future products.

If you can believe this the 2011 Durango has been in production for four or five months, not even a brochure or accessory of any kind available. Not even mud flaps; I usually put those on before driving off the lot.

Now that that is off my chest; I do like the new vehicles and the fit and finish. Especially the interior of the 2011 Durango citadel

They just opened a new Fiat dealership in McKinney, TX. I've seen it on my way home at night. It seems so strange to see Fiats again on lots.

They are headed in the same direction as before...example the Chrysler Sebring is renamed to the 200. It's still a POS that only rental car companies will buy. The Eminem commercial during the superbowl was great, but a poor choice or product.

Speaking of FIAT...look what happened to a new Dodge Durango burst into flames during the DC Cherry Blossom festival parade. Isn't this typical of Italian cars?

Check out the video on you tube: http://www.worldcarfans.com/111041231370/dodge-durango-bursts-into-flames-during-parade-video

I wish we could return the days of innovation of the early 90"s when Bob Lutz made exciting vehicles.

I think Chrsyler has done a good job with a few products like the new Jeep Grand Cherokee (Thanks to MB) and the new SRT8 engine.

You will notice that the OEM, Arvin-Meritor made, hood struts don't last much longer than the ones made for the Prowler

I thought this vehicle was tested in Europe for the past two years,,,,,,,,,,,according to the tv commercial?
Shocking....

CJ, I stand corrected, I just see these kool looking cars coming from the Chrysler Corp. When did Fiat take over the development? Did Fiat developed the Dodge Charger,Challenger and newer Vipers? Just asking. I am a complete novice with this brand.

Fiat just took over within the last year so they have very little impact on Chrylser designs yet.

Alleycat,
The hood strut failure under heat/fire is "as designed" to contain the fire.

Good point... I should have figured that out.

Heat/fire sensitive hood struts. Added value at no additional cost

There was "an SUV" with a fire under its hood locally today. News reporter failed to note what kind of SUV it was.

I just got my 2012 Fiat 500. Prima Edizone, rossa

Very nice small car, fun and people just react to the car
in real positive ways. Every one needs a bomb around
40 MPG car.

Wow, $ 20,000 for that. you can find a pretty nice low mileage Prowler for just a few thousand more.

If you are a Consumers Report fan, it would be nice if Chrysler got off the bottom of the reliability chart.

I don't remember why FIAT didn't make it the last time they were in the USA.

FIAT is #1 car in Italy the last time I was there.

Fiat maybe #1 selling car in Italy becaise of pride, but not the most reliable. Italian cars are know for looking great, but poor reliability.

One of Fiat's biggest bombs was the X1/9 Bertone model:

Sold in USA from mid 70's to mid 80's. No rust protection and lacked galvanized bolt and nut hardware > these cute gems would rust out horribly in a couple of years.

Question? Should you buy a car because of pride or reliability. Chrysler products are at the low end of the reliability chart with Suzuki if you are a Consumers Report fan. Look what it has done to Toyota. I believe they still make great cars but bad press has killed their image.

German cars and especially Audi are behind American cars for reliability.

Sorry this is off topic discussion but
Good words of your cautions about CR.
I've been a consumer report subscriber for many years.

They certainly do have a bias which shows up very often in the reviews on chrysler products. I have never had the realiability issues and disagree with many of the review comments so I take their auto reports with a grain of salt.

CR seems much more objective when it comes to appliances and the like. Oh,they are wrong about the iPhone too.

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to let you know that FIAT isn't any worse than Chrysler, GM or Ford. They improved a lot in the last 20 years fortunately. As the US brand did. But they are still behind Japonese and Korean brands. And by the way, remind me, which brand needed to be supported by the government lately ? It is creasy how people always think what THEY know is the best.
