It should be on the tongue on a label, but I removed mine when i polished the tongue. I seen numbers under the trailer thinking they were the VIN numbers. turns out they were not

I'm going to have a metal tag made for it and put under the trailer.

For all the ones with the label, at some point you will not be able to read them. I would suggest everyone get a metal tag made

My 2 Cents

I removed my trailer vin label and stuck it on the underside of the deck lid. Looks good as new after 10 plus years.

in Calif anytime a Vin number is Altered in Any fashion it must be inspected by a DMV employee, failure to do so can result in the veh being seized and impounded. Also the public vin has to be located in an area that can be seen by law-enforcement..Non public or Hidden numbers are in a location only known by enforcement officials..might save some of you further problems

Here is an older thread regarding Trailer V.I.N. Locations, I hope it is of some help.

It is on a plate on the frame under the trailer, can see it from the front, it is also on the label on the tongue.

Here is another post from long ago regarding storage space of the Prowler Trailer.
The trailer weighs in at 385 pounds, has a 615 pound cargo capacity and holds 23 cubic feet of Prowler stuff.

My tongue label was moved by the original owner to under the trailer. It fell off before I got it. I have the original certificate of ownership showing the VIN#. After looking at the plate on the frame under the trailer, it does not match any of the numbers on that certificate. It shows the serial number, but not the VIN#.

the plate under the trailer is the serial number from the company that made the axle, has nothing to do with the vin

I have another trailer with the same type label/vin number. As they age if exposed to sun they will fade.

A very POOR way to make a perminate ID.

I have a 1998 trailer and it is very difficult to read the tongue tag.

I got 1A9UT0812XW294065. That's 17 digits. Can someone verify if this is the correct amount of digits? The Michigan registration I have has the axle serial number on it.

I'm not sure if I want to go thru the hassle of trying to get the correct vin on the title or not.

Motor vehicles have 17 digits. If it is made in the USA the first digit is the number 1.
I agree that a sticker is really a poor plan and I can't believe it got approved. Down the road this will become a problem, especially if a trailer or two get stolen. Good luck identifying it. Switch the tongue and no one could prove it was theirs.
It may be a real good idea to move part of the carpet back and use an engraving tool to inscribe your SS number along with the VIN, if you still have it. Maybe include your name in a different spot under the carpeting.

I sent an inquiry to http://www.ajaxtrailers.com/ in Michigan regarding replacement VIN tags.
With a little luck, maybe something positive will happen here.

According to the web site they are at the following location:

2089 TEN MILE ROAD
WARREN, MI. 48091
FAX (586) 757-2280
(586) 757-7676
Mon thru Fri 8am - 5pm

It would be fairly easy to make a VIN tag out of aluminum that would match the layout of the original crappy decal, it should last for many years. I'm going to make one for mine before the original fades completely, I'll also attach one inside under the carpet to keep it out of the weather.

It might take a few weeks to get it ready but I'll upload pictures when it is complete.

Meester Dave - if it looks like the original tag I would be interested in getting one if you decide to make them for others.
As an alternative, I have a picture of one (flat) that could be used to make more stickers of.

Working with Dave to create a replacement for the trailer VIN sticker. This would be an aluminum plate that will look better and last longer. You could better polish or powder coat your tongue without worrying about the original tag.

I would suggest two, one for the visible tongue ID and a second secured in an undisclosed location as theft protection. Our trailers have held their value very well. It is very easy to register a stolen trailer in another state with minimal documentation. Michigan doesn't even issue a title for trailers under 2,500 pounds. Some states don't require trailer plates.

Working on samples and pricing. It would help to gauge who might be interested.
