That balljoint is available for something like $25. (lower I assume)

What I would do if it has low miles since being replaced is to ask to speak with the regional service rep from Chrysler. This is a safety issue and should not be taken lightly by any dealer. If anyone were injured due to the failure of this part it could mean big bucks for DC.

Again I am assuming low mileage on the balljoint. Find out when the recall was done and the mileage at the time.

Someone should take care of this.

A ball joint should not break after being replaced by the recall. Do as MD suggests and then work your way up the food chain.

Then maybe the joints that were replaced are no better than orginals. One other thing I would check is to see if joints were actual replaced,I think there is a marking under joint to check but someone else needs to advise on that.Did you watch the person replace them?I would get in touch with Manifactor and not accept one person word that nothing can be done.Let us know what happens.

If you PM me the last 8 of the vin and the miles I can run a service history report from the DC database.

"Once a recall-always a recall" This is what I was told when my recalled ball joint broke. My dealership replaced it again for free. I would take your problem to the regional person in charge. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPENED AT ALL. If you want the part no. I'Il get it for you an d post it. They are sold in pairs only to the best of my knowledge.
Go get 'em !!!!!!!! Obi-Wan

All good info, especially the link from Norm. Check your VIN to see if it has been already done in the system. Then click on the link above, as it lists the contact numbers for Chrysler Customer Service. Don't waste time with the dealer. In the event of any recall issue, a manufacturer HAS to take care of the problem, no matter how many times they break. This is assuming there is no reason the joint broke from abuse or some damage caused by hitting a curb, or a pot hole, or some other form of damage which is clearly visible. You didn't say exactly how it broke, so I am just assuming while you were driving along, without any known reason.

I am certain if you call customer service and tell them this is recall related, they will get an Area Dealer Rep on it ASAP. If they don't, tell them the next call you are placing will be to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure AFTER the car was repaired under the recall. Here is the link for more info:

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

No manufacturer wants to receive an inquiry from the NHTSA about a vehicle issue, especially if it is safety related, and already an official recall on their records. JMO

I just got off the phone with Kirk Irvine the Service Manager at Ontario Chrysler. There should be no problem with covering all damages under the recall.

Call Kirk immediately at 909-390-9898 at the dealership or on his cell phone at 909-208-1782

Let this be a warning to all SoCal owners. A good dealer will assist you, not fight you.
Ontario Chrysler sevices most of the Prowlers in SoCal.

Great info. Larry---thanks for doing that for him. It's nice to see so many people really trying to help in these situations between Dealers and owners. Some Dealer's really need to "step up to the plate !!! " and become responsible and while I'm at it so do the regional factory reps.(more often than not there the real problem(I've had this happen to me #*!!^%*) Obi-Wan

Out of curiosity, how many of the new ball joints from the recall have failed? At what mileage are these issues occurring? I'd like the last eight digits of the VIN on any second failure. Don't post it here. Either email me at boblongstreth@comcast.net or send me a PM. Thanks

RPL,

This is the first Prowler replaced ball joint break that I have direct knowledge of.

The other car that I thought was a broken recall ball joint was indeed on original that had not been replaced yet. That car is now at Ontario awaiting parts to complete over $4000.00 worth of repairs.

If I still owned my car I would be able to tell you who to contact at nhtsa. I was one of the first 3 who had a failure. NHTSA contacted me directly after reading my post and viewing the pictures of my car. I have since sold my car and I gave my entire file to the new owner. I would contact them and ask who was in charge of the Prowler recall.

And people wonder why I'm sometimes grumpy.
Courtesy and manners always help to get cooperation.

1234go,
A simple "Thank You" would have been nice.
