Just wondering who is going to CES and if it is worth the expense to go all the way from Florida. |

Just like SEMA though, you must be affiliated with a company to attend as, at least in the past, it is not open to the general public. Cool "first look" at electronic gizmos though ... |

I've got a pass.. I'll be in Vegas that week on other business so I thought I might go by. Oh and the passes are free on the site.. you just have to fill out a form and tell them your in the business. I happen to actually be in a business that would allow me to attend but you could just as easily make something up. |

Mcrealty, it might be a hoot for a first timer. I am in the biz as a manufacturer's rep and have been at every show since 1981. It has grown, shrunk, and generally averaged around 125,000 attendees annually. Since the demise of the COMDEX computer show which used to be held in November each year, CES got a little larger and became a little more important to the trade. It's not a consumer show, for sure. You won't find most booths set up to cater to "civilians" but if you just look around, no one will bother you. What's neat is seeing what will appear in your Best Buy/Circuit City stores in the next 6 months. There is no direct selling going on and the Vegas "models" that used to frequent the booths are all pretty much gone. All in all, you'll see 3.000 or so brand names that will never appear on your locals electronics retailers store shelves. The big guys like Sony, Panasonic, et al will of course be the dominant players. If you go, have fun. Take comfortable shoes, it's one massive show that you'll never cover in under 3 days. |
