Hopefully this will get some attention. Any ideas for a 2006 major event???? It looks like 2007 in Tulsa is going to shape up to be a major deal that year. I though mabe we would get some ideas posted here that can bew discussed at the Deadwood and Dells events.. Personally - I would love to attend a major POA event in the West. Didn't someone suggest and offer to plan 2006 in Yellowstone? I also would enjoy a trip West. |

Although I like Marty's thought about a West Coast national event,,,,,I seem to remember that since the Yellowstone event wouldn't work for 2005 because of short range hotel reservation problems,,,,it was going to be looked at for the 2006 event? |

Nobody will come west of AZ, if even that far. Calif has a bad rap. (stay out, lol, more fun for us), Nobody from FL will get west of Texas. Bummer, but thats the way it is I think. Hope I'm wrong, be nice not to be the long hauler at these events. |

A/C, Marty said in the West, not west coast. To us, anything past the Mississippi is the West, so Yellowstone would definitely qualify. Marty can correct me if I am misinterpreting his remarks. It might be time to have one in the N.E., as in Vermont, New Hampshire area. Just a thought. If we are going to do Branson, it ought to be combined with Tulsa, since they are so close together, in my opinion. |

Since Tulsa is going to be a 2007 event perhaps the planners for that event can incorporate Branson into those plans. As far as what I meant by an event in the West - anywhere within a long day's drive of the Mississippi would NOT qualify. YES - it would be a long drive for a lot of us to get to California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Arizona, Nevada etc. but it would us a chance to meet many of the POA people we only know from their posts. Plus even the drive to and from the event could become a POA version of "Power Tour" - driving through some beautiful scenery with a caravan of Prowlers. As Ed mentioned - the New England could be a nice spot also but my opinion is a western states event is due first.

How about the Smokey Mountains? The Blue Ridge Parkway is a very nice drive. Also, the Vanderbilt Estate is close by and would make for some very interesting photo shoots as well as a one day tour. Old World Quality and opulence of construction can never be duplicated again...not even by Bill Gates. My 2 cents! |

quote: See my comments two posts up. The Smokie Mountains are VERY scenic but we were just there in 2003 - 108 Prowlers!! We had a cruise to the Biltmore Estate and loved the time driving the mountain roads. Maybe when the people our West wake up they'll post some ideas for out West! quincy - I know you are relatively new,,,,,,the 2003 national Prowler event was held in the Smokies. Good place to re-visit,,,,in the future. I see Marty and I were typing at the same time, lol. This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 06-27-2005 at 09:06 AM |

quote: I admire you efforts Marty. But it ain't gonna happen. The POA is made up mostly of midwest, southern, and some eastern people. Would be nice for them to come experience some of the best cruisin weather, sites in the USA, but they wont go that far. Bunch of wusses.... Ok I would be willing to help, or even take it on with others help. Wussies,, the bunch of ya,,,,,,, This message has been edited by jd2ksilver on 06-27-2005 at 09:10 AM |

Well - the West Coast is awake now, I see!! John - what course did you take on "how to win friends and influence people" ? I agree that most folks form East of the Mississippi would pass on driving thzat far for an event. But frankly, most pass on driving any further than they get in one day. Diving the PCH or cruising wine country would be great. If nothing developes I am considering participation in a weeklong tour from Radid City to Seattle in Sept of 2006 with about 100 hotrod & muscle cars. Maybe we'll cruise down to Northern California after that. But I would rather see something get planned for POA even if it's only several dozen eastern cars making the trek to join the Western states members. |

While I would like to see a 2006 Yellowstone event,,,,,another option might be Las Vegas??? Viva Las Vegas: Day 1: Arrivals - cat cleaning - evening dinner and rap sessions. Must be a Go-Kart nearby,,,to test your skills, lol. Day 2: Hoover Dam cruise - High - speed cruise out to Area 51,,,then a scenic cruise through the red mountain park Day 3: Maybe lap the oval at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Hard Rock Cafe/Casino - spend rest of the day visiting old downtown Vegas and the Strip at night. Optional adrenaline rush: Ride the roller coaster 1,000 feet up on top of the Stratosphere casino Day 4: Day trip to London Bridge at Lake Havusu,Az and back to Laughlin, Nv for a river boat ride and dinner Day 5: Morning breakfast and departures Steve and Debbie Faint are awesome event planners there,,,they know the area, and Debbie does/did work for a Resort Hotel/Convention Center in Henderson area OK,,,,I've said enough. Others can step up to bat! This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 06-27-2005 at 10:03 AM |

quote: John - it's just a bunch of hotrodders wanting to cruise the mountain area without all the sponsorship that goes along with Hot Rod Poweer Tour. Once they finalize the plans (I helped chose the route, but got vetoed on extending it two days andf dropping through Colorado and Utah) and dates I'll emial youn info and post it in events. Back to POA 2006 - hopefully Larry Lord or someone will try to get something going and a few of us "wimpy" members will make the trek! |
