Well, in my case it all began w/a motorcycle crash 5/8/04! Accident happened locally...I'd been ridin over 100 miles already & was back in town & decided to turn left, I asked one dude in front of me to help me up...extending my right hand...he pulled...I had right foot planted The leg, tho' having no cast, was bandaged in 3 places so I really couldnt see what was there. In a few days, as these (then nasty) bandages began slipping & literally falling off my leg while I semi-slept, I noticed I had staples in [3] locations: 1 near my knee, another 2/3 the way to my hip, the 3rd at (or on?) my hip. Well, a week later the staples were removed. There were about 8-10 staples at each of these [3] locations btw. So, just 3 Mondays ago I had the appt for Dr to chk the wrist (got cast off wrist and the Leg. Doc said BOTH were looking real good...so, apparrently I did the right thing--heh! Oh!, to back up slightly, the Titanium Rod is 1/2 thick and runs from the knee to the hip, held in with two screws top/two screws bottom...which doc says are working out, slightly. I asked what does that mean--izzat a problem? He says nah, that's normal. Kewl. Rod is now permanent, BTW, so oughtta be fun in aeropuertos dontcha know. Lastly, I shouldda mentioned probs w/left shoulder initially...but, I figured it was just road rash & would go away...din't realize it was [also] internal. So, had 2 more XRays Monday b4 last...and sure enuf there is some sort of joint-separation going on. Doc says lets wait til final appt (Jul 19th) and if still isn't any better, he'll inject it with cordozone. Hmmmmm. OK, now this.... So, I'm looking at auto-trader during my 7-weeks of healing I did buy it for my wife (in Iraq til Sept) so I got her a personal tag. She has been known as an ELF and an EVIL ELF in our bike circles...due to size n temperment, so, the tag I got her reads: ELF CAGE ~Ken (aka: 'Titanium-K' due to my titanium leg now) |

Ken it is good to hear you have made such a good recovery. When I ride I look for anything that moves. You situation is one that worries me the most when riding, someone I cannot see that does not see me. My Goldwing shows up more then most since I have so many lights, but this doesn't always help. Your choice in cars was a good one. You might be happy as a bug in a rug with it right now, but attend an event and see the mods others have done and you will have the MODBUG. If the car does not have the front splash gaurds and ceramic brake pads you might want to get them ASAP. These are a MUST for all Prowlers. Larry Lord makes a deck lid hinge protector that should have been on the car from the factory. Continue with the recovery and return of your Elf ------------------ |

My husband worked for Chrysler and when I first saw pictures of the car that was to be built as a concept vehicle, I fell in love. I told him that if they ever actually built that car I wanted one. In the year before production was started, he was asked to be on the Prowler Team, handling the dealer allocation. We went to a number of events with the concept vehicle. At the Detroit Autorama, I helped hand out Prowler posters. At that time, I also worked for an automotive sports marketing company. We built and ran the Plymouth Prowler Roadshow for Chrysler and it was my program to handle (logical choice!!). I was around it for a long time, loved it for a long time and in July of 1999, my husband suprised me with my 1999 Black cat as an anniversary gift. In February of 2002, he gave me the Candy cat as a gift for our 35th anniversary. I am a very lucky woman married to a great man who only wanted to make me happy!!! I know you aren't supposed to love materials things that much, but I love both those cars and plan to never sell either one. They are part of me! |

Our compnay set up the staging and displays for Chrysler at Churchill Downs whenthe sponsored the Triple Crown Races. I got to see the concept car several years before production and once I saw it I told everybody I knew I would have one day. I never dreamed it would be as soon as May 2001. |

I went to see the first one at the dealer in '97, on the other side of town. They wanted about $ 80 or $90,000 for it. I told Sandy that when I hit the Lottery and money is no object, I will buy one. About a year or so later, I saw a 97 Purple go past as I came up an exit Ramp on I-74. I was on the way to Monthly Poker. I told the other guys at poker that I was going to get one. (At that time I thought all of them were Purple.) I had a Red one the following Tuesday. I still did not know they made Black or Yellow. Now I have two. Red and Candy Red. I have been asked several times why I needed a second one! I always answer, "I didn't NEED the first one!" What has need got to do with it. Either you get it or you don't!!! Ken, to let you know how dense I am, I had no idea what the reaction was going to be. It never entered my mind. On the way home from the dealer, as I pulled onto the interstate, an 18 wheeler blew his horn. I thought he meant I was cutting into his lane. I was ready to flip him off when I looked, luckily, and saw the thumbsup. Then it was kids sticking their faces out of the rear side van windows, taking pictures, etc. That was over 5 years ago and it does not seem to be subsiding! |

I had looked at '97 and '99 Prowlers and really wanted one, BUT, out west they were going for $75 to $100K and I didn't have the kind of money that Ed Monahan has so I had to forget about them. In Nov. of '99 I was ready to get rid of my '96 Corvette and buy a new 2000 Vette. I finally got the nerve to approach the computer in my home belonging to the two gals who rented from me,,,,so I learned to navigate the web and found AutoTrader.com. There I looked at new Vettes but decided to see if Prowlers were listed. I found a dealer in Lincoln, Nebraska (my home town) selling cats at window price with no UPS. Called them and just missed buying a black cat by about three hours. They said I could have the next one they get,,,whenever that might be. On Christmas Eve 1999, the silver Alley Cat showed up at the dealership and three weeks later I flew out to get it and drive it home. My father had always owned Plymouths and I thought it would be neat to keep a Plymouth within our family for another generation to come>>>>>>my cat is titled and registered in my grandson's name and mine - WROS. My uncle still has his first new car, a 1949 Plymouth 4-door which he stills drives and enters into car shows for judging. I'm hoping my grandson will hold onto the Alley Cat until 2040/50,,,,,if there will be enough parts around to keep it running. Ken, hope I didn't bore you, but you asked, lol. |

My love affair started with a Mopar show where the Prowler was being shown off at Columbus and flipped over the whole concept of a modern 32 high boy!Damn what a car ! Than after buying my LHS I got mopar stuff in the mail on the concept cars and read an article on a lady that bought one of the first Purple Prowlers and drove it across the U.S.A on Route 66 like she had done as a youth with her parents, and that was so COOL reading about her adventures with this amazing car the PROWLER.I told my wife man I got to have one.Well got side tracked for a while with work and playing with some small investments finally had enough cash to put a deal together and start my quest to find a deal on a Prowler,WELL what to my surprise the cars were off the map in price gouging and couldn't the deal I was hoping for!! So time to build the 45 ft.addition on the house, six car garage ,new kitchen and put the dream on hold.Well in November of 2000 a friend called and was telling me about a rebuild and said I had to check it out, well it was a 1999 Yellow Prowler and I went nutz figuring I could put this car together and achieve my goal and after figuring parts, paint, purchase price it wasn't such a great deal! So after being disappointed once again I got looking on the internet I saw away I could achieve my goal and get the car I truly wanted and on New Years Eve Day 2001 it was made possible we bought our New 2001 Orange Plymouth Prowler from Maryland in the dead of winter and trailered it home to Pa.Well on the way home ,with our friends that went with us to get the car we stopped for fuel. While at the gas station in Haggerstown,MD having the Clean Orange Prowler on the trailer I decided to check to car out with the lights on since it was dark out and still can't believe I OWN A PROWLER !!! Well out of a mini van running across the station was a little boy with his DAD in hot pursuit came up to my car with eyes as big as saucers and a smile from ear to ear, admiring the car lite up on the trailer. His father proceeds to ask if it was okay if they could get a picture of the car for his son.Sure ,it was COOL to see this little guy flipping over the Prowler so the little boy snapped the picture and I said would you like get up in the car for a better picture and his Dad was stunned,so we put him first standing next to the car on trailer, hand on the mirror and snapped the pic then put him in the car for the second pic, then with his Dad and son standing beside the car.Was great to share that moment with someone so young,it was the the best day !!!! Well after having dinner and the ride home can the moment of truth got to drive the car home after we unloaded it and that was the ride of all ,New Years Eve,New Car,Dream came true, got hammered while sitting in the garage and brought in 2002 sitting in a PROWLER. WOW!!!!!!!!!! |

Welcome Ken....We were all newbies once. sorry to hear such sad circumstances led to your prowler, but you got one... For me it started with a Matchbox candy red 33 coupe. I couldn't stop looking at it, and realized the 300M was too tame and cushy for me....I had the bug for a hot rod, but was still intimidated by price. Then my local dealer dropped their silver showroom Prowler from 55K to 36K overnight. I didn't buy that one, but knew that the Prowler was approaching "affordable". I still didn't pursue it for a while longer, but I passed a convertible Vette and knew I wanted something fun, but not a Vette...I needed something more outrageous. Went up to Waldorf to order a Candy red, but there was ole' Black Tie 161 sitting in the showroom. They said "Make us an offer on this..." |

Liked the car from day one when it was introduced. Wanted one someday had a Vett,67 Chevy and 70 Chevelle the later never car never having time to finish or money going some other place than the car. Co-worker tells me they are stopping production on the Prowler, go on line looking for inventory and prices, not really looking to buy just curious. Found one locally at a dealorship, after work went to look, just to look, drove it down the highway and had to have it, it was Deja vu like" it just fit and I bought it drove it home 10 minutes later. Didn't realize all the attention car would get, I bought it because it felt good and comfortable for me. My best cruises are out in the country on the back roads enjoying the landscape and downtown Chicago along the lake front on a cool night. Fantastic car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

We liked the Prowler, but was not on the top of our list. The dealer that we buy most of our cars from informed us they got three Prowlers in. One was pre-sold but was not there when we looked at the other two. Still not in the buying mood. Long story short, passing by another day and Pumpkin was parked outside, this was the pre-sold one. Called up, it was for sale, dealer brought it to the house for a test drive. Pumpkin found a new home. I have to say the color was the ticket. I guess you know what color that is, but all the colors are great. ------------------ More 'Pumpkin' photos . . . . . Hey everyone, I am new to this group. I just got my first prowler last monday night, its a 97 purple with 8500 miles on it. It needs a little TLC that it will get starting this weekend. ( I detail cars for a Dodge dealer here in St. Louis ) I wanted one since I saw the Prototype but you know the story out of sight out of mind. I saw a black one at a local car show and that feeling came back. I searched for about a month and found 6 differnt ones in my area. I felt that the 97 was going to be the best deal, so I traded in my 03 Mustang Cobra, my wife thinks I am nuts, but guess what I GOT THE CAR I WANTED ALL THIS TIME! When I get a chance I will post pic's. Thanks Barry |

My friends are already betting on how long I will keep this car. Everyone seems to be forgeting how bad I wanted one when they came out. When I saw a Black one at a local show I decided to hit a few of the local dealers that would carry this type of car. I found 2 that night, a 99 black that they were asking 34,995 with 15,000 miles and a 99 purple for the same price with 16,000 miles. and the purple one had been painted on (which they denied) the same dealer has a second location that I had never been to, and that is where the 97 I bought came from. I had also looked at a yellow 02 with 27,000 miles they wanted 39,500 a red 99 with 1339 miles for 35,995 and a black one with 1095 miles on ebay but the dealer never responded to my e-mails. The only dealer willing to work with me was West County Auto Plaza here in St. Louis, The others were New car dealers but none wanted to take a trade in on their Prowlers. |

I am amazed that some people sold their cats. For some it was due to the downturn in the economy, or other family problems, etc but some just got tired of them. That is unbelievable to me but everyone is different. I bought a second one with the intention of selling the first one and now we are probably keeping both since I haven't even tried to sell it in almost 6 months. It is just a lot of fun every time you take it out. Try to get together with Rickster and his dad Mel and the other Rick B in St. Louis. They show up at most events and they will talk you into spending some money on the car and then making it to the events. They are planning an event in the St. Louis area in late Sept. Once you meet the other owners you will be even more hooked. |

Do you know anything about the event in St. Louis? BTW I feel that this car is going to be a KEEPER. thanks Barry P.S. my wife has a seafoam green PT Cruiser turbo (180 hp) and I think it will be slick taking 2 retro cars to the local car cruises, we attend most of the cruises here in St. Louis. Also the money spending has already started, I have already buffed the top surfaces of the car and will finish the sides this weekend and also repaint the bottom of the nose that has been curbed. (Not by me) once I get it back to showroom new then I will start on improvements. This message has been edited by bbcar on 07-16-2004 at 12:04 AM |

Have always loved cars, especially cars that stand out. I grew up poor and got married early, two children by the time I was 25, needless to say dream cars were put on hold. In 97 when I first saw the prowler I new I wanted one. The kids finally graduated high school and years and hard work was starting to pay off. I started looking for a fun car, looked at a prowler or two, at 40k they were out of my wallet range. Looked around and found me a 23 T-Bucket in good shape for 9K with a small 305 in it. Every time I saw a prowler I drooled. A couple of years later (April 03) I got on ebay and figured out how to search the car section and decided to look at ebay prowlers. To my surprise they averaged 10 to 15 on auction at a time. Watched for months as cars went well beyond my price range in the aution, when over I couldn't find out how to see the winning price. I guessed it didn't matter for I was still several K from a purchase. Then in Aug03 I fell in love with the 2000 silver with chrome illusion flames and decided what could I do to make a prowler live at my house. Over the 4 months I noticed the price starting to climb slightly (in general) and decided I would see what I could do. Long story short, 2000 silver climbed into the mid 30's leaving my comfort zone. Watched and saw a 99 purple in Florida, talked to the wife, she says if you think you can make it happen "Go For It" Who says 25 years of marriage doesn't pay off Went on line to bid and low and behold a 99 red with blue flames appeared. Had 14k miles on it and a buy it now price at 28k. I was stunned. It was on a 7 day auction, watched for 3 days playing the bidding game each time I was out bid, decided to stop fooling around and hit the buy it now button. When I contacted the owner for payment he shared with me that on the day I hit the buy it now he had 3 phone calls from people that wanted the car and were preparing to use the buy it now option. Its been a nearly a year since my kat has taken up residence and it the best car I have ever purchased, not practical, but soothing to all the senses. Any one reading this thinking about their first Kat, do it, you can't go wrong and if it doesn't work out I would think you could sell it for what you paid, They just don't make them like this anymore. This is turning into a very interesting thread. The good part is reading that there are still a lot of people who love the car and drool over it. That means that there will be buyers for years to come. I know little kids absolutely love the car so I think we will be able to sell them, if that time ever comes. I hope it never comes but someday I won't be able to climb in and out of it. Maybe I can make a bed in the trailer and Sandy can haul my arse around. lol. |
