All you Kat owners out there - on your travels, what is the longest you have driven you Prowler for without stopping (excluding gas and washroom breaks). Thanks for all your input - going on a long haul and was wondering how many hours my Kat can handle. Christina |

christina - twice, I did 290 miles on full tank, and was nearly bare empty. I wouldn't do that again,,,,maybe 250 if your cat is getting good mpg average. |

The furthest on one tank I have driven is 220 miles pulling the trailer. The longest trip was Johnstown to Louisville, Kentucky in one day. 475 miles in 8 hours. |

When I bought my (wife's) cat in Orlando~I drove it home to Montgomery, AL which is appx 500 1-way miles! Took me n my stepson 8 hours going there in his 5-spd 35th-Anniv Mustang-GT...and about the same amt of time returning! It was a l-o-n-g day as we began the trek at midnight--getting to the seller's house at 8am (our time). Did what needed doing and were back on the road by appx 10am, arriving home at 6pm! And talk about heavy rain pelting us at least halfway home...continuing the entire way...I was nervous as a whore in church--as it was my very first Prowler driving experience! Visibility was zilch! But, we made it! So, 1000 miles within an 18-hr period! ------------------ This message has been edited by Tytanium-K on 08-17-2004 at 05:26 PM |

I try and fill up as soon as i reach a quarter tank left. The furthest distance travelled at one time....I usually trailer the car if I go somewhere,so I'll leave it up to the experts to answer better.....like Bob Goetz,Marty etc. ------------------ |

...about 800-850 miles per day is the most(12-13 hours), did it quite a few times.....stopping for gas only....I found on a long trip you just kinda get nestled in and it is very comfortable......could also depend on your size as to how the car fits each individual, but I found the cars alot of fun on long trips.....take several extra CD magazines so you don't run out of tunes.... |

Approximately 16 hrs, when I was delivering my wife's Prowler. Was on my last day on the road, but the other days I only traveled 12 hrs a day. That does not count bathroom or fuel breaks. I usually purchased food in AM for the day to eat and drink in the car, just don't tell the wife. |

613 miles in about 10 hours. (I have also made the trip in under 8 hours.) Times include gas stops. It seems like I make it back faster than going. |

I have 42,000 miles on the car but I don't think we have ever put over 500 miles on it in one day. Maybe the longest was from Cincy to Front Royal, VA. I do not think the car is all that comfortable but Sandy thinks it is. She is about 5' 4" and I am 6' 2" and I weigh 100 lbs more than her so that may be part of the reason we do not agree on it. I don't think it is horribly uncomfortable and the fun outweighs any cramping. Take the back roads. Take an extra day. Enjoy the ride. I truly think the Goldwing Motorcycle is more comfortable and it definitely has more storage space. It leaks in the rain, too. lol |

Probably not the farthest by any means but here goes, Picked up my prowler St. Petersburg, Florida and drove it straight home to central Illinois. About 1100 miles. Watched the speed limits closely and if memory serves correctly it took about 18 hours. Like most of the others I was stopping every 200 miles for gas. It took about 100 miles to get used to the ride where it was no longer bothersome and the the were comfortable. It was an enjoyable drive. 18 hours was total time including gas stops, did not stop anywhere for a sit down meal. This message has been edited by kat hunter on 08-18-2004 at 07:18 AM |

And might! LOL

Geno - I topped you by 5 miles. 1325 miles from Deadwood, SD to Mesa, Az non-stop - after attending the 2001 Crazy Horse Prowler event. Normally, I drive 1,000 miles before tiring out. On that trip back home, I was still pumped thinking about the good time I had in Estes Park, Co and at Deadwood, SD. |

Christina, My wife Bev and I have traveled many miles in the Prowler in this great land (including some of the events mentioned above). We have so much fun that I decided to share this in the form of a suggestion as to how you should travel, too. We take the back roads, side roads, stay only in small towns, and dine with the truckers. Top mileage for any one day is 325 but we have been known to make forward progress as little as 50 miles with the side trips. But my oh my, the beauty of these side trips can only be described as break taking. Gas stops: We fill up at the next station after reaching the ½ way point, or sooner, as lord only knows where our next station will be on the roads we travel. Rest stops you mentioned: How about every one. We have been known to stop to enjoy a fine cigar, more coffee, or just to stretch and walk around because rest stops are considered a true premium because of the pedal to the metal “on-ramps” to get back out on the highway again. You know what I mean, that tire chirp alone from first to second is worth the stop. We awake early but leave slightly late after a farmers omelet and hash browns with the locals. Yes, I know I’m supposed to go easy on that but it’s one of life’s traveling pleasures. For the evening stop, we like to cruise a small town back and forth before the unfashionable dinner hour so as to pick out a nice motel and then book it before it fills up as we never make reservations. We have no trailer or extra capacity. Just a stock car that we’ve learn to pack very judiciously. You have to take enough underwear to cover those occasions where it takes 3 days to get out of one state let alone the rest of the trip. And this is why we don’t show up much at the regional event wine and cheese party, folks would recognize the same clothes we were wearing the week before. We’ve logged a lot of miles and are having more fun than a barrel of monkeys and I am recommending this mode for your next trip because after all, its not the destination, it’s the journey. Highway 1 is next. |

Roger, good to read your words of wisdom. We have gotten "lost" a few times and found some great stuff to see or do. Any trip could be your last trip, so you might as well have fun. The 3 days worth of underwear would only be the pair Alley Cat was wearing, however. lol. Jerry S. told me he will let me use your Packard after it arrives, lol. |

longest single day trips have been 11 to 13 hours on many occassions - Louisville to Dallas, Louisvile to Minnesota, Minnesota to Nashville, Louisville to Western Kansas, Louisville to Gulf Shores, New Orleans to Louisville, etc. I drove the car over 6400 miles in 30 days a couple of months ago. The owner of our company (who pays for my gasoline) wanted to make sure the info was correct and I actually made 38 stops for fuel in a month! As others have said, once you get on the road you can drive comfortably for a very long time. Enjoy your trip! |
