Hi everyone. Good News. As many of you know I have been into the Dealership here 5 times to get my gas gauge fixed. The problem was that it showed only 3/4 full even after I had toped it off. After changing the gauge, computer and several other things they said they were out of ideas. I was lucky that I had found this discussion on the POA and there was one fella on CT. who had the same problem and they had fixed his. He suggested they change out the Valve Package Fuel Control # 1 5093967AA. The problem is NOT and electrical one. This valve lets out the air as you fill your tank and if it does not work you just can not fill the tank all the way. The biggest problem is that they have to drop the Transmission and the fuel tank to get to it. They said if it was not under warranty it would have cost $700.00. I figured that is why they tried everything else first. took 2 days. I will have to say that my dealer had heard of one place cutting a hole through the trunk deck to get to it and in no way would he do that to such a collectable car. He has notified Chrysler of what they found and they could not say why this happened only that they must have changed to a different one in 2001 and there are some that must be defective. They will be checking out exactly what and when it happened at the factory to try to isolate this problem better. I would suggest all of you who have had the problem to get with your local Dealers next week. Again this is NOT an electrical problem.. ------------------ This message has been edited by PAHs Sunset Ride on 02-18-2004 at 01:53 PM |

Pahs, I didn't go into detail in my last post about your problem because I thought that you would take my advice. Since you obviously didn't, I'll add a little more information. You asked about a gas gauge problem in your original post. If you had said that you were only getting a few gallons before the pump shut off or that you were having trouble getting a full tank of gas, I would have told you about the fuel filler hose problem instead of the sending unit problem. Believe me when I tell you to call John Shakarian at Ontario Chrysler 909-390-9898 John has done MANY of these same repairs and has NEVER had to remove the trans or cut a hole. There was a TSB regarding the size of the fuel filler hose and the cure to the slow fill / early shut-off problem. ------------------ This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 02-18-2004 at 04:01 PM |

Thanks Larry. It is good to know there are some real dedicated techs out there. It was not the fuel filler hose but a valve unit that goes into the top of the fuel tank that was not working. I do not think there was any way to get to it but I will call John if I have any more problems with it. This message has been edited by PAHs Sunset Ride on 02-19-2004 at 12:42 PM |

I have a different problem. My gauge sometimes shows nearly full when less than 1/2 full. Only occurs once in a blue moon and corrects itself within about a day. I have not had anything done about it yet. I wish I knew what the problem could be before I took it in. |
