I was wondering if anyone has done this? and does the paint not crack has anyone had this done for awhile to see if its looks ok after a couple of years. I would like to paint the front and rear both the same color of the car then put the shimmers on or should I just get the shimmers and just forget about painting?

Click on this link. It will open a scrapbook page to "Ken" who has a yellow with painted bumpers. He is selling or has sold the car but I emailed him in the past with similar questions and he was helpful.

I've had the rears painted for over four years. They are still in excellent condition and very easy to clean. They are very smooth and that just depends on how much time your painter puts into priming and sanding before painting. As always when painting plastic parts, painters use some sort of adhension or prep for this type of surface...

I had all four bumpers painted almost 4 years ago. I have a couple of small chips in the clear coat on the front. I figure that saved the body from getting hit by that rock. About 30,000 miles ago and they still look good except for those couple of chips in the clear coat, only.
I had the rear bumpers highlighted with different color paint but that was before SHIMMERS were invented.

I think I might have been the first to paint the bumpers on a Candy Red, and everyone really liked it on that color! Not sorry I did it, I love them. I don't have Shimmers, however! Here's link to my scrapbook where you can see them.....

I like Ed have had my bumpers painted for around 4 years. Except for some small rock chips mine were in good shape until the siding incident resulting in a total repaint. I have now removed my front bumpers.

After seeing my bumpers before and after,I think painting the bumpers increases the look of the car dramatically(if you like bumpers to begin with).
A friend of mine owns a body shop here and he had them done for me explaining they treat the plastic first making the paint less likely to ever crack. So far,no problems!

I would keep all the bumpers on and paint them. Your paint guy should not have any problem.

if we can ever get some decent weather to take the car over to the paint shop and get an estimate on painting front and rear I would like to have it done before spring.
it looks like there has not been any trouble with cracking like I was wondering about that is very good news. I really like the looks of the painted bumpers with shimmers. thanks a lot for all the input.

Take them off of the car and take them to the body shop now. They will be ready before the weather is ready and you will be set to go. Expect to pay $200-300 for all 4 bumpers, including clear coat.
