Recently I told you about how my trunk latch poked a hole in my top while it was folded down inside the trunk. Well, I had the factory service rep. take a look at it last week and although the car is nearly four years old he agreed to pay for a new top. The dealer, Norm Reeves Chrysler in Temecula, CA. will install the top for $283.00. The top runs about $3000.00 retail. I was very pleased with the decision but on closer inspection I realized that all the dealer has to do is undo six nuts and the heated back-light wire to R & R the top. Does anybody happen to know what the flat rate time is to replace a top? If this job takes more than an hour I'd be amazed.

James - Last time I seen a flat rate sign around here, it was around $85.00 hour. That was a while back though. Are you sure they are replacing the whole top as opposed to just changing the soft top material on the original bows? One of our local owners, also out of warranty, paid $300 labor to have the top changed out and adjusted to fit right and tight. I'd say they are taking care of you considering the 'out of warranty factor'. JMO

BTW - whenever you come back to Az for a visit, look us up. Larry

James,

This was a "gift". A new top costs about $1800 - $3000. A re-fabriced top is about $850 - 1300. Used (complete)ones go for $650 - ??. The top can be replace by anyone (six bolts and one wire) within a half-hour. Adjustment is ...well,...an adjustment and can take a few minutes to ??? Thank the manager and count yourself as L U C K Y. JMO

I just replaced the top on a 01 cat, the top is retailed for 1600.00, if you replace the bow assy it is just under 3600.00, I sublet the job to an uhpolstery shop they charged me 386.00 for the install of the soft top, they come as two seperate parts, in the years past they came as one but not anymore when the parts department researchs the part # it splits into two.

my labor rate is 90.00 per hour and I know dealers as high as 110.00, workers comp for a tech is almost 100.00 per 100.00 made. very costly to run a shop these days.

we just paid over 16000.00 in special tools for the crossfire and pacifica.

if they took care of you like you said. be happy dont question it and grin again
