Seems to me this was a brace for the Kat. It is high grade aluminum. The things I am finding as I clean out my work bench area...

That is the brace that goes across the battery and bolts into the bumper bolt slot.

That's right! Thank you for jogging my memory. Now, to find some other use for it. I really don't want to move it with us... Time for the thinking cap.

A number of years ago these braces came about because the 99 models (and few 97s) suspension was way to harsh. The ride was changed somewhat and mellowed out from 2000s on. Those of us that have 99s know at times how brutal the ride can be.

These braces were invented to tie the upper front suspension together and stop the frame twist that was throwing the car, what felt like all over the road. After I had mine from about 6 months I almost at times didn't want to drive it because of the harsh ride.

Although this bar stock worked, it was in my opinion just to rinky-dink and not attached to our car in which I considered factory looking and secure enough.

So after doing some research myself I made what I call my fabulous "C"-brace that bolted to the front bumper brackets without any modifications to the car.

I didn't go but 50 feet on maiden voyage and I was absolutely floored at the difference that it made. It went from thinking about driving the car to I'll drive it anytime.

Those of you that have 99s without a front brace are putting up with IMO, a brutal ride that can definitely be modified. The difference is absolutely night and day.
