That's great news Norb! Can't wait to finally be NHRA compliant and not be shut down after one pass. Hope it's not to ugly straight out of the mold. Haven't made a full pass all season so as not to get track officials mad when I go in to get an annual #.

Marc - I'm not so sure NHRA would consider your Prowler a "full-bodied car" just because you had a removable hard top, but maybe your local track will let you slide without a roll bar. However, if you plan on getting into the 11 second zone, then any car is required to have one. (Rulebook states that convertibles running 11.00 to 13.99 must have a roll bar, and that when that car runs 10.99 or quicker or exceeds 135 mph, then you need a roll cage.)

Marc,

Your top was shipped out on Thursday, 6/26 and should get to you any day now. The top is not the prettiest when out of the mold. Plain white gel coat. I would think you would want to at least paint it the same color of your kat, just to help "fool" the NHRA officials as well. If that is you intention.

Remember everyone, Metalcrafters does not claim that this hardtop acts as a racing safety feature and we do not claim that our hardtop will take the place of not having a roll bar/roll cage that may be required by any racing clubs, associations and/or racing events! It is solely yours, the vehicle owner, discretion/responsibility to comply with all racing regulations! Our hardtop is built/manufactured for the sole purpose as a accessory to your vehicle and not intended to be a structural member of the vehicle.

The Prowler is considered a convertible and our hardtop is an alternative for those that want a 60% quieter in-car ride, 1 1/4" more headroom, & no water leaks to the sometimes noisy, leaky, not enough headroom for some, rag top that comes standard with the vehicle.

Please call Bob Goetz @ Real Rod for any Metalcrafters product information. Thank you again for your support and have a great weekend!

That's great Norb. Not trying to fool them. The techs pretty well know my car but indicated the top would allow me to run 13's for test & tune. Besides painted satin black it should look pretty good with the rest of the car.
Rich, the "convertable/roll bar" is the issue. Everytime I make a sub 14 sec. run they warn "need rollbar". After meeting with the head tech inspector he indicated the hardtop would be enough to wave the roll bar requirement up to 11 sec. Bandimere being an NHRA track has come under pressure to more fully enforce NHRA rules throughout their events. I usually only go for test and tune nights and up til last year they had no problem with convertable Vettes etc making sub 14 sec runs. Also after 3 years of racing with a N2O bottle in the trunk they asked me to install a vent for the pop off because our trunks are not sealed. That was an easy fix and one I was glad to do. That stuff will make you pretty sick if you breath it.
Hey if I could get into the 10's at this altitude I'd retire the car and engrave the slip on the hood.

I had the pleasure of meeting an official NHRA Tech Person at my friends speed shop(Victory Racecars, they do all of Forces bodys and make TF funny car chassis's and more) when I had my Prowler there, I had asked him if NHRA would recognize the snap on hardtop as a hard topped car, he said NO and the Rules need to be followed to the letter(insurance)....

Outlaw tracks will be the only place we will be able to run our cars at 13.99 or less...

Gary, that's true for an "NHRA sanctioned event" but for test and tune and club events the track has a "little" leeway in enforcing NHRA rules.
