My buddy has a Kat that is in the shop right now. "Why" you ask? Well gather around and hear a sad tale that may be familiar to some of you. Those of you with weak stomachs or short tempers may want skip this post. It's quite heartbreaking. My buddy (we'll call him Jay) has a 2K1 tangerine kat. We used to show off and prowl around a prominent city in Southern California with he in his kat and me in my silver 2K1 kat that I call "Raquel-Charisse". The down town night prowls were always cool. He bought his baby to treat himself for all of the hard work he has done over the years to finally get his own small business off the ground. Anyway, he was always one step ahead of me when it came to putting some new cool thing in his car. His latest acquisition was a DVD player that mounted in the dashboard and replaced the stock stereo. It was one of the coolest things I had ever seen. I forgot who made it but I just had to have one! He pressed a button and the screen would smoothly come out and then smoothly flip up. I won't comment on what was actually playing (heh heh) but I will say that the picture quality and sound were really amazing! Whoever put it in did a stellar job. It almost looked like a factory install. Raquel was jealous but I was really happy for him. Later I moved to Los Angeles and lost touch with him for awhile. Last weekend I decided to take Raquel in for that ball joint recall and then treat her to a professional detailing. (Side note: It was my idea of apologizing to her for getting her wet on the road one day when I know how much she hates water. Boy was she mad. She didn't speak to me for hours. Hey, the forecast called for clear skies. How was I to know that a high fog would roll in and be so heavy that it made ground wet and even made it rain. It rolled out as quickly as it rolled in.) When I checked into the dealer I looked and saw that on one of the racks was Jay's tangerine kat. I wondered if he was getting the recall done as well so I asked the service manager about it. I learned to my dismay it was in the shop for a completely different reason. Jay had the bad habit of leaving his kat in the driveway with only his car alarm to protect it. I tried to warn him but he said he didn't see a problem. Oh well, he can't say I never warned him. About 3 weeks ago someone went to his house sometime between 3AM and 6AM and did the unthinkable. They cut a huge hole through the canopy and crawled into his kat. HORRORS! They then removed the top part of the dashboard and somehow disabled the alarm before it could go off. DIRTY BASTIDS! They took his DVD player along with the CD changer and all of the other equipment he had installed. NO GOOD SONS OF @#$%^&*! Can you imagine how they must have trampled his seats and severely damaged the rest of his interior? They wore gloves and knew just what to do and just how to do it. THE SCUM! I spoke to him on the Nextel 2-way last night to see how was doing. I remembered how I lost my sanity when I discovered that someone put two nice sized dents into the right side of my sweetheart. She was crying and I was screaming. She's fixed now and once again looks like my wettest dream but I remembered how it felt going through that. Anyway, we spoke for about half an hour. He's doing fine now and believes that someone associated with the shop that installed his DVD player is responsible for this atrocity. I have to agree. I hope finds the punks responsible and when he does I want a piece of them. Nobody disrespects a Prowler or a Prowler owner like that, NOBODY! I talked to Raquel about it and now she's scared. She demands that I upgrade her security again. She's no longer comfortable with the enhancements I already had done to increase her security. She's such a hard one to please but I see her point. I'm now looking to upgrade her security again so there goes my vacation money. Brothers and Sisters don't let anyone hurt your babies. I know they demand a lot from us and even if all they ever do for us make is make us look good in public remember that it is worth it. Take care of your kats and keep on prowlin'! Hyabinbubi |

I got a thing today from the neighborhood watch people that 3 cars have been broken into in my neighborhood since school was let out. We have a 01 Prowler and an 03 Mini Cooper in our driveway that no one has messed with, so I guess the kids at least have respect for nice cars. Hopefully no one will mess with them, but I'm not going to lose sleep worrying about it either. |

I have a Candy Red. I like the car alot. But i've owned over 50 cars and never named one! Never talked to one either. I live in the country, 35000 people. I never take my Kat to New Haven, Hartford, Or Bridgeport. (CT Biggest Cities)It would be asking for trouble. I wouldn't leave it in my Driveway overnite. If it was Stolen i'd buy another, simple as that. Thats what i'm paying Progressive insurance for. Would i be Pissed? Yes! I just stopped at a local Bar a few weeks ago with my 2003 S-Type-R. I drove home got up the next morning and they stole my Front grill. I called my jaguar dealer ordered another, had them paint it, they installed it yesterday. I wouldn't take the Prowler out at nite, out of my site, Period. People are Jealous of others and there are plenty of crooks out there waiting for a chance to rob someone. Hope your friends repairs work out for the best. ------------------ |

I have to agree with CT here. It is just a car. A very replacable car. 40 years in the new car business kind of makes you realize the true inportance of a car. It is still 4 wheels with a motor and gets you there and back (hopefully). I will be the first to admit that the Prowler is a summit of the auto building vision. I say replacable because we can, almost all of us, replace our cats for less than we have in them now. With the market in the state it's in now. So, drive and enjoy. And lighten-up. Life is short. |

Bcoffman Gray Ghost and badkat -- thank you. I'm very happy to hear there's someone else on this forum that understands the Prowler is just a machine and can be easily replaced. There's more important things in life than a stupid car. Although I do love my car. This message has been edited by superdoppler on 05-31-2003 at 09:16 PM |

You'll all be happy to know that Jay's kat is now as good as new. He said the damage was something like $6,000. Good thing he had that thing heavily insured. He's going to start locking it up in the garage now. He's still a little upset about the whole incident but he's taking it as a lesson learned. This going to sound strange but I'm actually glad that he didn't see the person tearing into his car and stealing his stuff. If he did Jay would probably be in jail right now for killing the guy. You all make some good points. I can see how one can say that it is only a car. It's true. It IS only a car. It's not alive (even though I jokingly pretend it is) and even though I treat it well and take great care of it like like I would take care of a good woman it is still just a car. However, it is MY car and everyone in my neighborhood knows it. I didn't buy that car to get me from point "A" to point "B". That's what my truck is for. I didn't buy that car as an investment to try and sell off later at a higher price. That's what stocks, bonds, and real estate are for. I didn't buy that car to smoke other cars on the road. That's what Vipers are for. I didn't even buy that car to pick up girls. I can do that on my own! I bought that car for the most selfish reason of all. I bought that car because I wanted it for ME plain and simple! Would any of you tell me that you didn't buy your kats for the exact same reason? Ask yourself why else would anyone buy a two-seater with virtually no trunk, one of the most roughest rides imaginable, doors that don't open wide enough, and is hard to see out of with the top up? I'll tell you why. It's because of the way you feel when you get behind the wheel! Am I right or wrong? In another series of posts entitled "Prowler Celebs" where they were talking about celebrities who own or may own Prowlers MOJORISER from the great state of Texas said it all: "If you've got a Prowler, you are the celebrity!" As far as buying another one goes I guess would buy another if I lost the one I have now. If I could find one of the 301 that were ever made I'd buy a Candy Red one like CTPROWLER's. Sweet color dude! Anyway, Raquel and I have been through a lot together. I don't really post much but I do read a lot of the posts on this site. My first post was made in the technical Q&A forum about this time last year. It was called "Muffler Bushing". In it I describe what I went through to buy my car, some of the things I've done in the process of restoring it, and why I call her Raquel-Charisse. That should explain a lot about why I feel the way I do about my car. With all of that said it should be obvious why I take a personal stake in my car. I made that car an extension of myself like many classic car owners do when they spend a small fortune restoring it. If anything ever happened to it I would take it VERY personally. That is after all MY CAR! Now I don't know what it's like to drive a Viper, or a Corvette, or a Mustang Cobra. Maybe those of you who own one or have owned one can tell me if the feeling behind the wheel of one those cars is the same as that of being behind the wheel of a Prowler. All I can say is, sure, they are all much more powerful and faster than the Prowler but when it comes to sheer style the Prowler tops them all. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, yes, the Prowler is just a car but to me it's not just ANY car! That is why I don't treat it like just ANY car. Good Prowlin' to all! I understand your point about your Kat. One thing i like about mine is its uniqueness. Very few on the roads. Its fun just to see the looks on peoples faces when the catch a glimpse of it!!I've done alot of mods on mine and seeing a orange stock in local dealers showroom makes me realise all the time effort and momey it would take to replace mine!!Unless you own a Kat you just don't understand whats its like to own one, very enjoyable. But in closing i think this site and the helpful people have given me something that all my other cars haven't. (Friendships)!!!Great Car Great People!!! ------------------ |

I 100% feel that if you can dish $35k out for a Prowler you can reserve it a spot for it in the garage. It deserves that much. That is animal neglect, call PETA. |
