He is right, a hot rod is an old car with the engine altered or replaced to increased for speed. This info was from taken from the dictionary. The guy in the picture surely doesn't look like a hot rodder ------------------ New pictures in Personal Scrapbook (02/23/03) |

Ahem...To me my Prowler is my Hot Rod. It's a personal thing I guess. I've had many thumbs up followed by 'cool hot rod, man'. Funny I don't remember too many 'hot rods' with trailers until the Prowler. Perhaps he is a Prowler wantabe. with his trailer in tow. When you lay on the ground attaching chrome stuff and other goodies with passion in your heart and veins, it's a HOT ROD! jmo |

To me, the Prowler is not a hot rod...it is a production car. But, I don't care. I like it, its fun, and I really don't care what the people at Good Guys or any other hot-rodder thinks. ------------------ This message has been edited by Dave Mills on 04-06-2003 at 09:06 PM |

One has to wonder why he felt it necessary to go to all the trouble of making a sign like that....... and I wonder if he restored his car or bought it from someone else who did the work? |

From the looks of things,,,the Boynton Beach car show is a joke! Where are the cars? Then this moron parks in on a angle and takes up three spaces, his tent another just to shade his lard as$. Our weekly car show brings out 300 to 900 cars per week. Classics, hot rods, racers, bikers, Vipers, Corvettes, Prowlers, PTs, Z's, new cars, trucks, etc. We all get along well,,,we are auto enthusiasts. |

I really like this guys car, but his attitude sucks. The rodder guys hear in GA accept eveything with open arms. From the looks of him he probably couldn't fit in a Prowler or even a PT. An interesting related story . As I pulled into a car show last year and a guy walked up and asked if I would trade him for his 32 Ford HiBoy roadster. Said he had $65K invested. I hadn't yet seen the car, but it did not matter, I did not want to trade. Saw his Rod later and it was extremely nice. It started to rain shortly after and he had to leave, as he didn't have a top. When you attend your next show walk around and ask these street rod guys if they built thier car. I think you will find a large percent bought thier cars already built or had somebody build it for them. A many Hot Rods now are really just kit cars. So what is the difference. I have built a number of Street Rod/Hot Rods in my time Most were 30 models, vintage steel they were. Now I drive a new HOT ROD. My 2000 Plymouth Prowler Yellow gets more attention than any other car I have built or owned. Building a car is something one needs to experience. What it taught me was to never be critical of others toys. I know what it took for me to build my first. Great to build and great to drive. I have had more people come up and start talking about the Prowler than with any other car. The age group is from 5 years olds with a matchbox in hand to a 70 year old that is amazed Plymouth finally build another great car. So is this a hot rod? According to the hundred or so people that have walk up to me and ask about this car, I would have to say they agree, YES it is an American Hot ROD. Who cares what small-minded people think any way. So, just what is hot rodding? I remember the 50's and I remember the hot rods from that era. I also remember the custom cars. The custom cars were lookers, but most were not very fast. Money was tight and most could only afford to go one way or the other. Most hot rods were...brace yourself...painted in primer!! The interiors just plain sucked with plywood floors. Seating was generally home made and was a fabric or naugahyde over foam stapled to plywood. Yep, they were chopped and channeled, c'd and z'd frames. Couldn't corner worth a hoot. Doors would pop open going over railroad tracks. But were they fast? You betcha!! These current hot rods can be summed up by loooking behind tubby. See that nice trailer? The current generation of 'hot rods' are not even driven!!! They are more of an off shoot of the custom cars than the hot rods. The hot rods are at the drag strips and usually aren't found in the car shows. I speak in generalities and I know there are exceptions. ------------------ |

In my opinion, the Prowler is the only factory HOTROD ever built. And if Chrysler did not view it as such, they would never have bothered to ask all the hotrodders their opinions before production started! |

Hot Rod was shortened from Hot Roadster. Prowlers are Roadsters and definitely H O T so who cares if he doesn't like my car. I surely wouldn't trade him for his car. I notice a big crowd around him and around his car. Pretty popular guy, reminds me of .... Nah I won't mention anyone's name. lol |

To me, the Prowler embodies all of the hot rod styling and spirit in a production car. Hot rods were never production built and no two were the same. I don't think whether one built it themselves, had help, or someone built it for them had any bearing on it. IMO, the reason for the sign is that he probably gets asked if it IS a prowler. Alot of people seem to think that any open wheel vehicle (like the one pictured) is a prowler. I've even been asked if my prowler was a Viper. Alot of folks just don't know cars. As far as his using a tent goes, I've been to alot of outdoor car shows where the owners and the promoters use them. We have a major charity concourse show in this area in May and all of the million dollar Dusenbergs and Delahays are under tents as are most of the owners. |

Sounds like somebody is a little bit jealous. I bet he was the guy in school that always said things like “my toy is better then your toy.” You know that the prowlers get more attention just by the fact that he put that sign up. Voodoo |

After seeing viewing this car and the owner of this car, I couldn't be happier to acknowledge that the Prowler is not a hot rod! If this is what is what a hot rod and what an owner of a hot rod looks like, then I hope to never own a hot rod. I bought my Prowler because it had a style that was not like everything else on the road. I didn't buy it to set new land speed records or to challenge every car from light to light or to have a "hot rod". I didn't build it myself and am glad I didn't have to. If owners of "true" hot rods can not except it, like this guy, it doesn't bother me at all. I am living in the year 2003 and would kindly ask "jabba" to come join me. ------------------ • MTD Prowler Intake System 2.2 This message has been edited by William Gallagher on 04-07-2003 at 10:03 AM |
