I'm talking about EVERY day, rain, snow, gloom of night... I know Marty does it, but wondering who else drives their Prowler every day? As for me, it's my ONLY car, so yes, it's my daily driver. When it snows, I hope that the school system gives my wife the day off, then I take the 300M. Otherwise, I drive it out, and wash it as soon as I get home. The roads have had a lot of dry blowing salt the last few weeks, and EVERY day, I get home, I pull the garden hose out of the basement (not frozen there..) hook it up, and hose 'er down good. I even get the bucket of warm water and sponge and do it proper. I would rather spend an hour washing the car each day than drive something else..... So, errr....anyway, anyone else have their Prowler as their only daily car? ------------------ |

BT161 - even I cringe when I look at my car recently. I know it will wash off, but all the salt is disgusting. At one point I could barely even see the flames on the sides. I was going to post a picture but decided I did not want to make those with weak stomachs get sick. (or they might post I have been abusing my kat) |

Mine is on the road everyday, unless the snow is too deep to get out of my neighborhood....it is also a disgusting color of gray and orange.....it sits outside overnight much of the time....yesterday morning it was -11 below zero, it was parked by the curb, started right up and away I went..... |

Every day unless it rains. Then I take the Porsche. A side note . Yesterday I went to a church on Memorial here in Houston to attend a funeral. I was early and parked near entrance to wait for my wife. There was a daycare center there . As all the moms left they drove up slow rolled down windows to let kids see my Yellow Kat. How cool is that. The best was a mom that pulled up close and got out I thought to talk to me. However she went to Cadillac SUV and opened the back door so her 4 year old daughter could see car. You see his car seat did not give him a view out side window. That blew me away. I was left speechless.... All thumbs up by all the kids. What a great feeling to make so many happy. The new Beetle commercial is exactly how I feel driving my Kat. Just can not beat this car. |

Thanks guys...I feel a little better now.. the neighbors think I'm nuts washing the car with a hose in 20 degree weather. I HATE to see the car dirty, so I work pretty hard at keeping it clean.... Forecast...snow, sleet, freezing rain tonight! |

BT161, I have only the Kat myself, but being in the city, fortunately I can Metro around to most places. I've yet to take the car out, but I see there's rain coming up this week to wash all that damned salt away. And once that dries I'll be takin' her out.

I shudder to think of all the damage that salt is doing to the frame and under carriage. Aluminum oxidizes much easier then steel. |

My Candy Red was a daily driver for it's first 6-7 months. I bought it in March of 2002 and it was my only car. In the fall I finally broke down and paid $2200(!) for a '89 Bronco II. I've had it checked and serviced and still have under $3000 in it. Some of the best money I ever spent. But I still get the Prowler out whenever it's not just God awful outside. Mike |

Although it didn't start out that way, my '97 has been my daily driver since 6/2000. I've had very, very few bad days since then and I love it! |

Drive every day and most of the time with top down. Living in Forida has it's advantages. |

Rich - Honestly, I spray under the car as best I can and just accept that it is a daily driver and will wear out far before the salt damages the frame to the point of failure (I hope) I already have 52,000 miles - another few years - it will be paid off in three more years - and I will probably have to replace it anyway. I assume this is a totally different mindset from someone who drives it weekends or good weather only and plans to hold on to it for years and years. |

maybe you can con Mike out of some... actually, few Kat's it seems aer driven much. I suspect we'll see almost new Prowler's for sale in 10 and 20 years. Look how many low mile 97's are out there and they are 5 plus years old. ------------------ |

OK...About the salt. The second I get home (if the roads are still salty) I get that hose out, even if it's 20 degrees, and lay on the ground and spray the living crud out of the undercarriage. another factor on corrosion is heat......Not much corrosion will take place when it's so cold, so the salt will not affect the frame as much. You can be sure when spring comes, the car will get a thorough scrubbing underneath to rid of Winter's last bits of salt...But spraying with the hose gets a lot of it off for now. Bottom line: The car is no fun sitting in the garage! |

BT161 is right on the money, It isn't much fun sitting in the garage. Mine is not a "daily driver", but I try to drive it when the weather is nice, and here in Atlanta we don't have many times that we have salt/sand on the roads. I am as bad as BT161 as far as keeping him clean though. |

I drive mine everyday! I live in South Carolina and when it snows here it's no big deal because they don't salt the roads. And even if they did I would just take it to a touchless carwash with the high pressure undercarriage spray and that would easily solve the problem of getting the salt off the frame. No big deal. It's a car and it's the greatest car in the world....I'm gonna drive mine 'til the wheels fall off! |

Blue Cat: It's like a sickness isn't it? "Oh no! Dirt! AAGGHH!" robbieb: That's the spirit! But I personally would shy away from a high pressure undercarriage spray because I might drown my MTD intake. It's tucked away in there but.... |

mine has not been out of the garage since November....I like the snow but I'm sick and tired of the salt...for every 1/2 inch of snow I think we get 1 inch of salt... I think people that can drive a car that most think is a toy is great...I have a relative with a `57 Coupe de Ville that is his daily driver, It is a very nice car and he let me drive it out on the interstate and told me to drive it I wouldn't hurt it, 70+ and handled like new. BT161, I drive mine daily, have 49,800 (s)miles, but even I won't drive on snow if I have the choice. I bought a '94 Trans Am that I drive to work (parking situation) and for bad weather. ------------------ |
