The Official Prowler Online Weekly Poll:
Do the banner ads on the poll annoy you? Should we purchase the full version to eliminate the banners??

What does that mean - purchasing the full version?

We like the banners, but we understand that for those that have slower dial-up service (like us) it can be annoying. So I believe that the response to the poll will only tell who has dial-up versus broadband connnections or those who spent money on having a banner made (we made our own) versus those who did not.

Bottom line - leave it alone, as Scot suggested.

I’m not the expert, but I’d like to try to help here.

I believe the banners being referred to in the weekly poll are the flashing and sometimes non-flashing advertisements that are included in the window when you see the results. I read the question to be we can get rid of the banners (adds) in the pole results if we buy the full version of the polling software. I don’t think we’re talking about the banners on the discussion pages. And to leave it alone would be to vote no.

Not trying to step on anyone toes. Feel free to chime in if I mis-clarified.

Thank you for your clarification. We just looked at the poll again and we mis-read the poll. So now after our mistake our vote would be to get rid of them.ssssssoooooorrryyyy.

My question about the question is, How much does it cost to get rid of it? If it is $ 2000 a week more, leave it alone. If it is a one time expense and costs $ 500, dump it! I haven't voted yet since I did not have all the facts needed to make an intelligent decision. (That means get Sandy's impression and approval)

I know something about this one since I emailed Mike last week.

ProwlerOnline polls are free, but include the banner ads on the results page. Sparklit's Gold Service costs $14.95 per month for the first poll and $5 for each additional poll -- so about $30 per month for 4 weekly polls. In addition to no banner ads, you get some additional control over the polls and results.

I host a not-for-profit special registry for Final Edition Vipers and have avoided any advertising. In the case of our poll, I chose to use Sparklit's free service and accept the banner ads on the results page. I expect our users to understand this is not advertising benefiting our site.

Since I use free AdSubtract filtering software (recommended), I usually don't see the banner ads on that site or Prowleronline.com.

Hope this helps.

Jim, thank you for your help in answering the question of the poll cost.

I did a little more investigating on the pricing and provided that there is only one poll running at a time, the cost is $162.44 per year for an unlimited number of polls.

Every dollar is valuable.

Tha banners are a minor distraction that can easily be overlooked.
However if more control over the polls and other features are helpful to you Mike, then the money is well spent.

Mike, its your decision to make. Do the benefits justify the expense?

Mike

I agree with Larry, you need to make the discussion based on cost etc. Appreciate the opportunity to say if we liked them or not. Never noticed till the poll was posted, so Gary I think Scott should give the hat back. If he hadn't mentioned the banners no one would have known we had them. LOL

Concerning the poll and banners associated with it... Don't change anything if it costs more... It doesn't costs anything to ignore the banners ...

I also agree with Laddie, since the banners only appear in viewing the poll or submitting the vote I see no reason to spend good money for something that most of us view for 5 minutes a week if that. Lets spend the money where we get more bang for our dollar, My 2 cents worth. It is really Mikes call comparing cost versus benefit.
