Well, we got the good news today.... Chrysler is replacing our top under warranty. They ordered a new top and bow assembly for our 01 Orange Prowler. The same day we took our Prowler in for a second look there was another 01 Orange Prowler there with the same problem. I also got an e-mail form YellowFever that he too is getting top replaced under warranty. I guess they finally realized they have a problem. They said it is the bow assembly making the rips. Our top won't go up or down without you manually moving the bow assembly. Now we just have to worry about our car when they take it to the trim shop for replacement.

I ended up have two tear areas.

One, was two small rips over the passenger door and not on one of the ribs. When folded, the two rips line up together.

The other was dead center, towards the front, and inside. I think that center trunk release lever is the culprit here.

O.K., got the car and went over it with a fine tooth comb.

As far as the top fit, it is now as tight as a drum (not sure if thta is good) and it looks great. 98%

The top is soooo tight that if you use the release to release the rear two pins, the top explodes up. These things are really torqued down (I guess I'll relieve the pressure with the front set first) 85%

Outward appearance is fantastic. 100%

Inside, the material covering the center rib is tight on one side and loose on the passenger side 70%

The wide band of cloth on both sides (inside the car) that runs from windshield to trunk is very taught till you get to the panel closest to the trunk. There, it sags about 1" on each side. 65%

They didn't scrape the nose or put excessive miles on the car (top not replaced at dealer). 100%

Overall, I'd score them at about an 86%.

I dealt with Allen Samuals Chrysler in Clear Lake. Craig Robertson is the service director and was very helpful and concerned about my plight. Without him batting for me, the district rep would have said NO, I'm sure. Their number is 281-604-1000.

Some pictures would be a good idea because I've been reading most of these posts and I am still trying to figure out exactly where the rips occur.

I did find an impression in the center of my top passenger side caused by the center rear latch. When you put the top down, make sure the material of the top is tucked back. This seems to work. I am also thinking of affixing some type of padding onto the metal latch as an extra precaution.
