Last year the Deadwood July 4th tour was a wonderful experience. We met so many great people and we had good weather for touring the Black Hills. One of these years soon we'll all have to do it again.

Unfortunately as July 4th approaches this year, Deadwood is our worst nightmare. Yesterday a forest fire blew up and has almost surrounded Deadwood, and the entire area is still evacuated. On the 4th there may be no one in Deadwood, and we are praying that the town, the people and their homes do not go up in smoke. Keep them in your prayers.

The contrast of the situation is mind-boggling. This morning we started out to cruise the Hills, but a few miles out of Rapid City we came back home because of the thick, brown smoke. By noon the wind had shifted, and the southern hills were clear. We cruised Keystone, the Pigtail Bridges, Custer State Park, the Wildlife Loop (no buffalo attacks on the Prowler) and the Needles Highway. We were thinking of all of you who were on the 2001 Crazy Horse Tour, and hoping we and lots of new folks can do it again, God willing.

Donny - I just heard that news report afew minutes ago, very sad. Having 452,000 acres of our (Az) pristine, ponderosa forest burning down to nothing but ashes, I can surely relate to your report. I truely hope they can get the Deadwood area fire under control soon so that those fine people can return to their homes.

While thinking about my fourth of July plans the other day, I thought back to last year's great Prowler event and the fine people I met and fun times we all enjoyed. I hope we can do it again in the future. Our prayers are with the people of Deadwood.

Donny.........

Deadwood was fun last year and it is distressing to hear about the current situation. It is terrible at best!

The Colorado event was fantastic, too, but certainly sombered somewhat by the devasting forest fires there also.

It makes me ill to think about the homes lost, the wildlife lost and all the beauty of the places that are under attack by these fires. Let's hope the situations gets better soon.

Donny, you are right about last year being a total blast. It is a shame about all of the fires out west. It will be years and years before it all grows back and unfortunately we will not be here to see it. I just hope it all grows back for my grandkids to see it as a full forest again.
