I am considering an after market alarm or Lojack or something. Does any one have any knowledge as to Kats being stolen. It is a high profile car so it can't be driven too far. If it was parted out it also would surface. Is another alarm worth it??? Frank |

I don't think a Prowler would be a good candidate for a chop operation. You have to be able to sell the parts somewhere and, face it, there just aren't that many Prowlers and we all know each other! I imagine that if a Prowler were stolen, it would be for joy riding. In that case, a Lojack might not help. I'm satisfied with the factory installed ignition-disabling system, but I plan to put in a dummy flashing LED on the dash-just for added "protection" |

Seeing as I live in the stolen car capital of the world. I had a LOJACK installed. The latest trick is to steal the car with a flatbed hauler and head to Mexico. Peace of mind is worth the cost of the second alarm. ------------------ |

Al is right. There is a report that came out recently that indicates chop shops are not the main source of the car theft industry anymore. Now the cars are being sent to Mexico and across the sea. I have put an alarm on mine where they can track it and tell the officers exactly where the kat is. LoJack works where they have to drive around in circles to triangulate the position. Additionally, the report indicated that coastal states and states close to foreign borders have the highest crime theft rates. Even though our car does not show up on the report as the most stolen, remember those reports are done by sheer number of cars stolen, not percentage of cars stolen to number of cars made. ------------------ |

Joe Rad of Orlando almost had his red cat stolen in West Plam Beach about a year ago. He was staying in a hotel in a not so good area of town. They used a surgical knife to slit the top of the roof parallel with the top of the window. They tried to reach down inside the Prowler and grab the door handle. As soon as they opened the door handle on the inside the car alarm went off and Joe woke up immediately and ran out to see two guys drive off in a car. He was left with a 12" slit hole in the roof. The only way to repair that was to get a new top for $3000+. Joe will post pics I am sure. ------------------ |

Here are some Pics of Joe's Car after someone tried to steal it. Note the white powder around the opening...that is where the potential thieves wore powdered surgical gloves (leave no fingerprints). He informed me that it was $2400 for a new roof to be made locally and they save the class from the old top. A new top from DC is $3000. ------------------ |

quote: How strange; they work fine for me (both the images in the posting and the standalone links). Since the images are hosted on GeoCities, I'm going to take a SWAG here: are your cookies turned off by chance? It's the only (potentially) easy answer. |

The links are not working because the files have hyphens instead of underscores and Geocities has locked out links to the pages. Here are the pictures ------------------ |

PK, sorry for the jargon. I guess something's different for me, because I stil have no difficulty getting to any of the images or links. In order to take it out of the thread, I've emailed Cliff for more info so I can better understand what's going on from the technical side of things. |
