Hey all, How easy is it to change the oil on my Cat? Is the filter and drain plug easy to get to? I did a search on POA and found little info except that I should use 10W-30 Mobile One. But is Mobile One really worth the price of $5 qt? What Oil Filter should I use? The Mobile one filters are like $10 each or is a $5 Fram or STP filter the same. What does the dealer use when changing a Prowlers Oil?

I use the "high end" frams myself with a synthetic called Lubrication Engineer's. Personally, without a lift, I'd not try and change my own oil, the filter is in a hard to get to spot and dealers only charge between 8-20$ for this. ------------------ |

Hi.. The synthetic is worth the Extra dollars /use it in everyone of my cars. I use Mobile 1 , although I think Most other brands are as good today .. I use the Fram Double Gaurd and again beleive the Premium Filters just do a better job . I had a 350 chevy go 300,000 miles ,then the crank broke , but it didn't burn oil /I live where temps go down to -40 in winter .. USE Synthetic Change my own oil ..Use a Set of Ramps available from any auto store /Get a Filter wrench and you are set . |

As long as you have ramps (or access to a lift) Prowler oil is easy. I use Mobil-1 and the Mobil-1 filter, which I had to buy on the web, it's not carried at my local stores. The high cost is insignificant to me since I don't drive the car much. If you've never used ramps before, stay away from the pressed steel ramps. I use a pair of molded resin ramps that are rated at 12,000lbs, and are supported from the tire to the pavement. Much safer. Good luck. jd ------------------ |

Spoons, Get a 5 QT. container of Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart for about $ 17. That cuts the cost down to just about $3.40 per Qt. it is worth the difference to use Mobil 1. I change my own and I do not own ramps. It is not much more difficult than any other car and a lot easier than some I have owned. ------------------ |

Ed - Sandy said you don't have ramps because you make her do the under engine jobs on the oil change Why does this woman tolerate you? ------------------ |

Larry, it is embarassing when she is 50 feet up in the oak tree and I am on the ground passing up tools, ropes, etc. She's a trooper. ------------------ |

My local dealer here in Ft.Lauderdale wanted over $100 for an oil change. I drive the kat alot and would be spending a small fortune on changes. I went to wal-mart and got to drive on ramps that got the front end of the car about 12 inches off the ground. They cost like $20 and I got the expensive Fram filter $15 and the mobil one. It was easy to reach the filter and the plug. I also got a 7 qt. oil catcher to drain the old oil into. The whole process took 15 mins top....very easy |
