I decided to really clean up and detail the front compartment on my Prowler today. I removed the plastic grill, bottom steel bracket and battery etc.
I've been a Fire Department Paramedic for almost 30 years. I have been to thousands of auto accidents over the years. What really caught my attention was how little protection we actually have in our cars. It got me thinking about all the Prowler owners that remove their front bumpers for a better cosmetic look. I have decided to keep my bumpers on because in my mind anything is better than nothing. Having an accident in our fantastic cars is almost unthinkable, but it happens.
Something to think about. I wish everyone many years of safe driving.

fd911medic,

I just replaced my nose tonight and I had the same thought when I saw the Kat with it's mask off. I agree about taking off the bumpers. I was close to breaking down and getting the cover-ups later this summer or fall but not now.

I appreciate that everyone has the right to their own opinion and mine happens to differ from the two posted above. Imagine that - I don't have front bumpers.

I have seen Prowlers with front end damage and do not believe there would be any $$$ saved in any but the slightest of crashes. The nose is exposed with or without bumpers and the cost of bumpers and resulting damage to braces and frame would probably be similar repair $$ to damage to wheels that would be hit in same accident without bumpers. Certainly the out of pocket $$$ for either would be the same deductible no matter what the actual dollar cost.

As far as safety/injury. Every accident is different so it is my opinion I can't say with any certainty that bumpers would make significant difference in a particular accident scenario. The air bags will still deploy without the bumpers also.

Again this is just my opinion and I guess the fact that I have been lucky enough to only have had one accident in the last two decades - (a fire hydrant jumped into my passenger door in a parking lot) that I feel safe without the bumpers.

Having broken a few bumpers... these offer no protection other then to the Kat itself at EXTREMELY slight speeds... the kind of speed where your going so slow you didn't even notice you hit something.

I believe they are called 5 mph bumpers,,,,,and that's about all they can withstand before vaporizing. Removing them is a personal decision, but they offer no added protection to you in the car. If you crunch them up in a accident, add another $1500 or more to the final repair bill.

I've gone 2 1/2 years with them on, but that is about to change. Personally I like the look with them on as it makes the frontal view more thinner looking,,,,,,,,but I hear nothing but crap from people about leaving them on. If I later decide to put them back on, I will.

Please hurry and take them off.

This looks like big business, as more are going to come off.
Give a 100% money back if they don't like the looks and want to put them back on.(Ps. Charge a fee for this money back Guarantee, and the beat goes on).
(PS.Don't forget I get a Cut for getting you turned on to the idea, maybe you could use a good Business manager, you could even charge me a feeeeeee.)

AC I heard down at Deadwood last year your American Kat's only needed by law in the states 3 mile per hr. bumper's and the Canuck Kat's had the 5 mile per hr. bumpers, just like my stock kat will go 150 mph and your's stock will go 130 then shut down, where's the reasoning there EH.

I personally like the blk painted bumpers better than the gray ones I have on mine, I will leave mine on but to each his own that's what makes our counties the best in the world to live in, freedom of expresstion
