I joined the Prowler group doing the Death Valley tour for lunch yesterday. I have some preliminary pictures of the event. Click here for the pictures Some of the folk may be home by now, others may still be in transit. When they get back on line, I'm sure they will have a lot to say and will have all the pictures from the 5 day event. I joined the group for lunch on Saturday at Panamint Springs and although I know it has been said here many times, they truly are a great bunch of people. You get the feeling you have known them for a long time. They make you feel that welcome and accepted! I tailed along with them for a drive to Wildrose. I haven't driven around corners that fast since I was a young pup. I kept feeling I was holding everyone back with my old fogey driving (I can do that, I am one!) If you are wondering, I got Viped! Several Kcats passed me too. Someone at lunch called the kcats colorful jelly beans. Watching the kcats strung out on the highway, that is exactly what they looked like. They were beautiful, they wasn't a bummer color in the crowd. They all sparkled like little jewels. On the way back from Wildrose, I was below 1/4 tank of gas so I went even slower to conserve fuel as best I could. I saw a sign "Ridgecrest 69 Miles" so I turned to it, but it was a dirt road - NO WAY!! When I could I got back in line, I did. Somewhere on the return trip I tried to dodge a huge pothole..almost did it, but didn't. I hit it hard enough to send the right front center cap flying into the weeds. I don't know how deep that pothole was, but I think I saw some Chinese writing near the bottom of it out of the corner of my eye. I turned off at the intersection with the road to Panamint Springs. What a send off! In my mirrors I could see a whole string of kcats of every color blowing their horns and waving! I drove back to Panamint Springs, got gas, and headed home. Just seeing all the Prowlers really made my day!! The weather was beautiful. At home the high for the day was 99.3 degrees. At Panamint Springs, the temperature was 99 degrees. In the hills on the way to Wildrose, the temperature was 87 degrees. On the way home, low in the valley I saw 100 degrees!! The wind was non existent. Just a beautiful day! ------------------ This message has been edited by sunbird on 04-14-2002 at 07:04 PM |

Rudy - Maybe next time. I was hoping to plant some seeds of thought in 'my accountants' head about needing the hardtop. It was great to meet you. Catwoman - was that you having difficulty climbing out from Panamint? I sure hope the kcat is OK. If you made it home already, I would guess that the problem was minor and all is OK. ------------------ |

yes, unfortunately...that was me. We were stuck on that hill for an hour, trying to cool it off. Thank god there was at least a cool breeze! Many guesses as to what it might be causing the overheat - seems the fan wasn't coming on though. Will be taking in to the dealership in the morning. The guys were able to bypass the switch so the fan would run all the time and no overheating problem today although the car struggled getting home. Will let you know what they say...... |

Todd - Both visually and finger feel, it seems OK. Of course a dial indicator would be the best test. ------------------ |

Phil & Jane had the timing of the event perfect! It was the warmest period of the year so far. Yesterday it started to get blustery and today the high was 72.6 degrees with wind gusts up to 65 MPH. The sand storm was terrific, could only see about a block! I'm glad the desert shined favorably on all of you for your cruise! ------------------ |

Nice pictures JD! Say Rudy, if you were faster than John, how did he get pictures of you behind him??? One of us should have taken pictures of the potholes at the far end of that road. And they say those of us in Cal. don't know what a pothole is. ------------------ |

Ted and John, nice pictures. I hope to have the pictures to post by this weekend. These will all be "G" Rated. I think Mel has some of the "X" rated and I hear that Bob C. does too. Thanks to all that came, Jane and I had a great time until the Pothole from *ell but we are ready for the next event. Sorry I missed the bar on Saturday night I heard it was the talk around Furnace Creek on Sunday and Monday, Phyllis said we can still come back and to thank Rudy for giving her a ride is his beautiful Orange Prowler. She really liked it. Thanks again Rudy. Look for the pictures after this weekend. I will be sending the Scotty's Castle pictures to those that chose to pose in front of the Castle. Thanks to everyone who attended and made this another unforgettable event. ------------------ |

quote: Ouch!! Is the kcat OK?
quote: I was really impressed with the Prowler owners at Panamint when I saw them giving the 'hired help' rides. What fantastic people. I saw the eldest waitress ask Julie if it would be OK if she had her picture taken in front of Julie's car. Julie handed her the keys and said "Why don't you have your picture taken sitting in the drivers seat?" I am truly amazed by all of you!!! ------------------ This message has been edited by sunbird on 04-16-2002 at 11:31 PM |
