800 miles to go before my first oil change. The oil isn't even dirty yet. I noticed some oil spots under the kcat. Put the kcat on the ramps and found oil dripping off the foremost crossmember. I isolated the source of the oil to the left shock. I took the car to the dealer today. Four mechanics came to check it out. The diagnosis took 30 minutes. Well, actually, it took less than a minute and we BS'd for 29 minutes. They are going to replace both front shocks. There are two available in LA and if they can get them the shocks will be here next Monday, so sometime next week my kcat will have it's front end dismantled. No Prowler tech at this dealer. But I think these guys will still do a good job. If you say a little prayer, it could certainly help! ------------------ |

Sunbird, Be aware, "supposedly", ONLY a Prowler tech is authorized to do warranty work on our Kats. I don't think it could bite you, but it might end up biting the dealership if something goes wrong. You might want to ask. ------------------ |

Sunbird.......no disassembly required!!!! The shocks are a piece of cake to replace. I replaced my '99 shocks with 2001 shocks in about 15 minutes. The only thing to be aware of is that the car MUST have all of the weight on the front wheels BEFORE you tighten the 2 lower bolts. ------------------ |

I believe "Just JP" is correct, only "Prowler Certified" mechanics allowed to touch, and that Dealer should be telling you that. I took the "BadKat" to dealer that didn't have one and they told me that DC instructs dealer "hands-off" if they dont have a certified mechanic....they would not touch it and put me in touch with an authorized dealer. Two weeks ago I had all 4 rims replaced under warranty. Trey, the Prowler Certifed mechanic, said DC was so strict that he could not drop the car off at the tire shop. He would have to stay with the car while they replaced the rims. Said not even a tire vendor was allowed to work on that car without a Prowler Certified mechanic supervising. That's the way I like it! I wouldn't want anyone who "thinks" they can do something working on my Kat. ------------------

Thanks for the info... Todd - I'm not in LA, they located shocks in LA using the computer. KenG - Thanks for the tip. That is the kind of thing that could be missed and could make a big difference. JP & Chuck - If this were more serious, I would go to the dealer in Ontario. I think he is the closest tech that I know of. Usually changing shocks is no big deal, but then most shocks aren't integrated with the springs. CJ - Somehow I knew you would, you're always there for all of us!! Al - Have you checked out the state of the interstates? By the time I got to Mich. I would need 4 new shocks!!! This message has been edited by sunbird on 04-14-2002 at 06:57 PM |

Sunbird, I don't know how close you are to Ontario or if Fillmore is closer to you than Ontario but there is a GREAT Prowler Tech at the Fillmore Family Motors in Fillmore. I don't think I would let any mechanic touch my kat unless they were trained to. There are so many little things to know about. JMO ------------------ |

I'm not sure which is closer, Cliff. I would have to look at a map. I'm real familiar with the route to Ontario and it's downhill much of the way. Thanks for the tip! ------------------ |
