Couple of things I was wondering about as a new owner was for the 3M clear tape that goes on the nose. Does it stand out or is noticeable and unattractive? Does it work well for preventing nasty little rock chips? Could someone tell me the exact name or what I should buy so I don't get like Scotch tape or something =) Another note is where the rag top meets the trunk lid. On top where it snaps in it seems to be leaving a line mark where the edge of the top meets it. Does this rub off the paint long term? Has anyone else noticed it? More questions concerning washing the car. What is everyone using for washing and waxing? I DO NOT want swirl marks. I already can see a few from the half *** way the dealers clean their cars. I'm afraid to let anyone touch the car and more afraid of ruining the beautiful paint myself. Thanks for any info regarding the above. |

amc - I rarely wash my silver cat, so I will not try to tell you anything about that. I use a Calif. duster all the time, Meguiar's Detail, and never drive it in the rain (unless caught in it during a cruising event). Film is 3M Protective Film. Is not real noticeable unless you really get close to it to examine. I think color of the car has alot to do with it. JMO ------------------ |

Yes, after a while you will have a permanent line on the deck. http://www.quaint.com/prowler/prowler_deck_lid_protector.htm This message has been edited by SasyMama on 02-25-2002 at 08:45 PM |

quote: I spent about 2 weeks in November removing all of the swirl marks from my car. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to prevent them 100%. However, to minimize the possibility of swirl marks, I use a 100% cotton wrapped sponge to wash my car. To dry my car, I use a Califonia Water Blade (squeegee) and 4-5 white 100% cotton towels (made by Fieldcrest, www.fieldcrest.com ). The finish looks great and is nearly swirl-free. Within the next year or so, I am going to have my car wet sanded and have 2-3 layers of clearcoat applied. This will give it a very deep wet look that will be better than the original factory finish. ------------------ MTD Prowler Intake System 2.2 |

I haven't washed mine since November. When I do wash it I use Kit Carnuba. Wesleys Wash and Wax should work good too. I dust the car everyday and use spray and shine on the weekend. It never gets dirty enough to wash. ------------------ |

Wow, I hope mine stays so clean. I've already had to use Maguires quick detail on it a couple of times due to no mudflaps and running across some water. I think keeping the wheels clean will be the biggest chore. |

You do know about the dustless brake pads for the front only, correct? ------------------ |

I've heard everyone speak of them. I'll see if my local shops have them next time I'm there. What kind of cleaners are you guys using for the leather interior? I have Lexol leather shampoo and conditioner which worked great for my black leather int. BUT a friend of mine has grey leather and he says it gave it a brown tint. Anything else someone recommends? |

I've had my black cat for 2 1/2 years now. I find that keeping a really good coat of wax on the car, keeping it dusted and clean, and using the detailer often, has eliminated any "line" problem. I don't have one on my car. Here is some info from the archives on cleaning the cat:

Here is anothrt tip. If you use terrycloth towels always amke sure they are 100% cotton. Also when you put them in the washer to clean them DO NOT dry them in a dryer with any kind of fabric softner. It will leave a coating on the towel and you will not be able to get agood finish on the car if you use these towels. |

Thanks for all the tips. Question as to why remove the stitching on the towels? Won't they fall apart, especially after washing them? |

Bill, You said you had problems with swirls marks. Try this, don't use circular motions when washing or waxing... on any horizontal surface (ie. hood, trunk) use a east to west movement along the entire length...on any vertical surface (ie. side panels) use a north to south movement along the entire length. It helps to hide any imperfections and because of light's reflective and refractive properties it helps your car's shine. Anyone else bought the deck lid protector? Is it noticeable? How hard is it to take off if necessary? |

The protector is not difficult to install or remove. I have been doing this kind of work since 1994 and I feel that the Decklid Protector is one of the easiest kits that I have developed. If you have any other questions feel free to give me a call at: 419.476.8193 Zole Haydu |

I showed mine to several friends and they all say you have to put your nose on the car to see it. I waxed it too. Sassy |
