I just received a note from Jim Angle stating that he went to look at a set of Prowler chrome wheels that are for sale on EBAY and the seller is located in San Diego.

Jim says the wheels are flaking on the rear surfaces. And he is no longer interested in them.

Just a warning to many who have been watching EBAY for a set of wheels,,,most of the Prowler wheels on EBAY are wheels that are warranty take-offs and have found their way back into circulation. Be extremely careful when purchasing them. You may be buying another persons problem wheels.

Thanks for the info Larry. The set I bought were flaking also, but not too bad. I got them pretty cheap. As a thought, the insides could be painted to match the car.

Well this is strange. I emaild him yesterday,2/4, with questions regarding chrome quality. He emaild me back telling me wheels were perfect, off a 2001 Prowler and that owner wanted to change look. I have been looking for quite a while for a decent set and I have not found any on ebay that were not factory take offs due to chrome problems. Have to really be carefull.

Yeah, but why not purchase those wheels, slap them on your car... Take them in for warranty.... Then you have a new set of flawless chrome wheels, to fall back on if something happens to the wheels you have on your car now......

Cnote,

The high bid was $900.00 at that time. Not sure what it is now.

The following is a cut and paste from the seller explaining his position. He asked that it be posted on the website for all to see.

***********************************************************
I did show this wheels to a gentleman here in the San Diego area and he saw some flaking in one of the inner barrels. I was not aware that the inner barrels were of any concern, although i did look thinking that this would be normal for wear and tear. Furthermore the flaking is very minor. When I got home I checked the other wheels and the rest are fine. It is my opinion that the wheel can be re chromed (truthfully the wheel is not that bad). Once again the gentleman only viewed one wheel. I am sorry that my information was incorrect. When I look at wheels I look at the outside to make sure that is perfect. Please forward this to your prowler site/message board. Thanks for your interest Markiv

As noted before, flawed chrome wheels that are being exchanged by the dealer, under warranty, are making their way back into the used market. And some via ebay where there have been several offerings.

My personal opinion is that these wheels should be purchased with the idea in mind that you will re-plate them at some point if they are to be your primary wheels. It would be a fair assumption that any flaking now is only going to get worse in time. Many factory stock wheels obviously had plating problems.

Bidding less for a set of wheels being described as already flaking may be the best bet. Several sets of wheels have traded on this board and elsewhere in the $500 area.

It would of course be unethical and highly unfair to Chrysler to purchase these flawed wheels and turn them back in under warranty.
