In the fan mail section (p. 18), one reader wrote in response to the article about the comparison between the prowler, t bird, corvette, z3, and sc 430. Here's what he said:
"In his review of the '01 Chrysler Prowler ("Sun, Speed & SUn"), Jeff Bartlett spend a whopping one-half of the opening sentence acknowledging that the car is distinctive and the following six paragraphs berating its shortcomings. This is like Beethoven reviewing a ZZ Top concert. If you aren't into the Prowler, have someone who is review it."
-Mike Roper- McKinney, Texas

Motor Trend's weak reponse:
"Bart's flattered by the Beethoven reference, but that doesn't change the fundamentals. The Prowler must stand up to scrutiny, and we have to report on it, warts and all." -ED.

It sounds like the reader doesn't own a Prowler but still stands behind and supports it. It's nice to see that Motor Trend's bad comparisons don't change the minds of the readers. I love the prowler for what it is no matter what uneccessary features it doesn't have. - DANNY

I never did like Motor Trend. When I was a kid it was the one auto magazine I didn't read. They always gushed over some of the ugliest and most pathetic cars.

But why compare a kat to a vette or t-bird? There is no comparison. They are simply different animals.

For instance: A vette owner parks his car in a remote corner of the parking lot and walks off with attitude to the store. A kat owner also parks his car in a remote corner of the parking lot, but ends up spending an hour meeeting people and answering questions. Never does make it to the store, but it is just as well - there is no room to carry purchases.

A t-bird owner would park in a prominent, but safe area of a parking lot and walk to the car show. The kat owner would park in a prominent and safe area in the car show.

If you want to compare a kat to another car, compare it to a early 30s based street rod. That is it's heritage. Now in that comparison:
The kat is just as quick. Some are slower some are faster.
The kat corners better.
The kat has better traction.
The kat is more comfortable.
The kat is safer.
The kat is more easily insured.
The kat is more reliable.
The kat gets better gas milage.
The kat doesn't suffer from bump steer.
The kat's doors remain closed when driving over railroad tracks.
The kat has something no other hot rod has - a warantee.

Sunbird (spoken with attitude x 2) What's you point, man? It is only the C5 that there is room to put purchases, up till now it has been like driving a Kat. spoken with tongue in cheek) Those T-bird owners may park in the lot, but they may also have a indistinguishable blonde peering out from around the top glass ... lol

Ah man, you've watched American Grafiti(sp) one too many times! That ain't a blond - it's a grey hair with the purple doing a severe fade! She's made the trip between Rockford and Belvedere one too many times!
