How long did you wait to wax your new car? They say 90 days after manufacturing. Sassy |

Wax it now, I suggest that you use kit car wax, make sure you use a towel, preferably one made of carbon fiber. ------------------ |

After I had my flames done, I was told to wait 3 weeks for the paint and clearcoat to cure before applying wax to it. He said I could put a "glaze" on it but not a wax because the clearcoat had to "breath" until the paint cured. ------------------ |

I've never heard of waiting 90 days. I was told the same as Cliff --- 3 weeks. That was on 4 different cars when I had them fully painted and they were high-end paint jobs from top shops. So.....it's up to you but I would bet you would be safe waxing now. However it's not my kat, it's yours so go with what you think is safe. Voodoo |

I bought it on a Saturday. Checked the manual - no warning. I waxed it on Sunday. I use ProtectAll. You can get it at RV shops like Camping World. It is a thick liquid and can be sprayed on, then spread it over the surface, buff out with a towel. It has good gloss and is a tough wax. The wax also doesn't have any polishing chemicals so you don't have to worry about that nasty tell tale where you missed wiping. ------------------ |

Another ProtectAll user - this is going to sound like heresy and I am going to get flamed for it - but I like it better than Zaino wax. ------------------ |

Cliff, you had your cat flamed and now you're getting flamed? Does Gina know you are a Flamer? Sasy use a 100 % cotton towel. I don't think you want carbon fiber towels on the finish. ------------------ |

I was actually wondering what everyone was using to keep from getting swirl marks!? I was looking at a 99 Purple Prowler the other day. I can get a good deal on it but really would like to get a Candy Red 02. Anyway it had swirl marks all over it. Most cars I see do. BUT I know it's possible to keep them off. What's the secret? Soft water and a chamois? |

AMC, Was that purple in Encinitas? We looked at that one, but looks like it needs a lot of TLC. For wax we use Zaino and 100% cotton. JMO ------------------ -2001 Mulholland |

Actually having some experience on this subject most paint manufactures say that in most cases with modern clear coat that thirty days is sufficient to dry. For certain kinds of custom applications you should wait longer. You can POLISH only almost right away. |

amcmahon, For swirl marks, I spent about 2 weeks going over my 1999 Red Prowler eliminating the swirl marks. The car shines like glass and looks great. Here are a couple pics when it was done. I will not post everything I did here, but I used, in order: The rubbing compound cut the deepest and removed 80% of the swirl marks. I followed up with the 3M SMR and then the Meguiar's SMR. The Meguiars SMR was a slightly lighter cut than the 3M SMR. I finished up with the 3M IHG to polish and give the wet look. Afterwards, I washed the car with Dawn dishwashing liquid and then added about three coats of Zaino Bros No. 5 SMR and then a couple coats Zaino Bros No. 2 Polish. I also wanted to add, that I wash the car with a cotton wrapped sponge and dry it with a California Water Blade and 100% cotton towles. ------------------ • MTD Prowler Intake System 2.1 With EGR Bypass Kit Future Mods: This message has been edited by William Gallagher on 12-22-2001 at 08:04 AM |

Bill, That finish looks great, You did a super job. I think I will wax mine today. I think the faster you seal the paint, the less contaminates you have. With my Black tie, it was a nightmare. I think my yellow KAT will be much better. Sassy |

Sassy, I also forgot to add that I used a clay bar on it before polishing. I would use a clay bar on your Prowler also before waxing it. Even though it is a brand new car, it is amazing how much crap is on the paint of even a brand new car. The clay bar will remove most/all of the contaminants on/in the paint. |
