ok, went out drooling over in-dash DVD units. I like the Kenwood with the Navigation system. Here are my questions for anyone that has owned one, especially in a prowler. 1. How does the screen look in the daylight, top down bright sunlight?? 2. Did you hook up radio/TV tuner to prowler antenna, if so how'd it work. If not what kind of antenna and where did you mount? 3. Did you have the Kenwook navigation system, if so where did you mount the unit?? Where did mount satellite sensors?? 4. How did you like the navigation system itself?? 5. Where did you buy?? Thanks, MadMikey ------------------ |

Mad Mike, I have also been looking into one. My only hold back is I have owned other high end gear like it and have had problems. The biggest being if the sun hits the screen you can't see it. Not a problem if you have the top up but.....IT'S A PROWLER--THE TOP IS ALWAYS DOWN!!! As to the antenna, the car antenna plug fit right in the socket. It was also a 'in the glass' antenna. No real problem with picking up signals. I have a navigation system in my truck and the antenna is just a small disk about the size of the bottom of a coke can and about 1/2 inch high. It could mount right behind the top on the deck lid on a prowler without a problem. I have my ups and downs with the system and don't know if I would buy it again but if you go on a trip it is a pretty good thing to have. The only real bad thing about the system is that it always seems that when I need it I don't get a Sat. Sig. I bought my systems from a High End Car store in Southern Maryland, so I can't say much about the big stores like Best Buy or Circut City. I myself would never let one of them near the prowler. Good Luck and I hope this helps. Voodoo |

I will try to answer your questions in the order that they appear. I have the lastest version of this Kenwood. 1. As long as the sun isn't over your shoulder it can be seen during the day but not very wellwith the top down. 2. The TV has its own antenna. It was placed under the dash. After you pull the dash off you just place it on top. it has a couple of sticky pads on it that hold it in place. I do beleive that the factory antenna was used for the radio. 3.The navigation unit is a seperate component that is purchased individually. It does not come with it. I had planed on buying the navigation unit but as of yet I have not. I don't go anywhere in the Prowler that I don't know where I'm going. 4. Can't answer that since I don't have that unit yet. 5. I too bought mine at a high end stereo store where I felt confident in them doing the install. Just a note. Plan on losing your steering wheel controls. They have not made an infared sensor that works with the new Kenwood yet. Also plan on replacing your CD unit. It is not compatible. I upgraded to a 10 disc Kenwood. The only reason I got it is because it looks cool and it certainly adds to the ohh and ahh factor you get at shows. It's not very practical but what the hell. You only live once. ------------------ |

Actually you can keep your steering wheel remotes with an adapter made by Lightning Audio or PAC. They use the factory wiring to the radio and use an infrared sender in the center console to send the signal to the radio. ------------------ |

Do you have this particular unit from Kenwood with this adapter on it? I do have an adapter but it does not give you ALL the funtions back. Only station changing or song selection on a CD or DVD. If so I would be interested to know more. This unit is made differently from past models from what I understand and there has not been one modified for it yet. ------------------ |

Go to www.lightningaudio.com >enter the site >click on products link >go to other cool stuff >on the top list go to steering wheel controllers >on the bottom list click the SWC >scroll down to see the complete detail of the unit >SWC-1 will be for Chryslers This system will duplicate any function on your infrared remote as long as there are buttons on your steering wheel.

Hey Mad, I also have this unit. I installed it myself. The TV antenna I mounted under the carpet in the trunk. Reception is OK when sitting still, not as good when moving. Direct sun is not good for looking at LCD screen. I don't have NAV system. I bought from Crutchfield $2419. The CD player stopped working in mine so I sent back the head unit and they immediately sent out another. Very good service!! ------------------ |
