I saw this info on another part of this site. Info I believe came from Chrysler. Anyone want to elaborate ?
quote:
Braces added to suspension- Not recommended. The frame is flexible by design and changing flexibility would need to be tested to insure no adverse durability results from stiffening the frame.

Where or whom made the statement or quote? Was it someone from the factory? Or? I'm curious too, since I have the upper front shock tower brace on my car. It handles the road much better than without it. These braces, in one form or another have been on the market for at least a year or two. Has anyone ever heard of any problems? We need to ask this question of the person that wrote the "quote."

I remember this conversation , or one like it when the frame braces were first offered by MAC.

The statement was made by Jerry Scholten (DC Engineer) in response to questions asked at the Woodward 2001 CAAP tour. For more on this, go to the Garage section of the site and look under Tech Info From CAAP.

I've read threads here where you guys were swearing by the after market frame braces. Now you're saying not to add them? I'm confused...

Mike,

My experience has been very positive with the Mac Braces. I think they make a world of difference in the way the car goes over bumps, especially when cornering. There are several other mfgs of these braces that do basically the same thing and everyone that tries them agrees that there really is an improvement in the ride.

The one thing that I guess is unknown is what they will do to the frame of the car and the suspension over a period of time.

BTW, I'm not sure if what Jerry Scholten said at CAAP is his opinion (and I for one do value his knowledge) or the opinion of DC, but I have no intention of removing my braces unless I hear of documented associated problems.

Maybe we can hear from some people that have put some miles on their cars since installing the braces!

hey guy's I have to say with my experience that the braces are what the car needed and the car handles alot better, ride like mike said over bumps is better and it is just a blast now!,
I think the concern with the frame is for the guy's that have the goodyear run-suck's still on, where they are so stiff and transfer every bump and cranny to frame and car, I've notice a huge difference since changing tires, so change tires to dunlop sp9000's or bfgoodrich KDW's or hope that bridgestone's pole 3's come out in our size?
Also you can go with 235/45/17 in the front, I've had no problems! chow

I have the G-Force Top Link. The biggest difference is in the elimantion of vibration in the steering wheel. The ride also seems improved. And, I just don't see how this can affect the frame...

We had five installed on Prowlers at Cruisin the Coast & the difference is unbelievable... We have five testomonials and we now have seven other Prowler owners from Cruisin the Coast that want the Top Link... So, i'm enjoying the new feel & ride with the Top Link....

Any auto manufacturer cannot make any official statement about a product until they have put it through the necessary tests. If you're a streetrod person, like those of us who have customized Prowlers, you take responsibility for the way your vehicle performs.

Like many others we find that the brace between the front spring/shock bellcrank mounts does wonders for the ride and handling (Ours is a 2000). As Laddie said, this modification makes sense to anyone who knows cars and should not affect the frame. There are many other production cars that have been modified with a similar aftermarket brace, usually above the engine between the spring/shock towers to improve stability and handling.

Two - 5/8" x 2.5" class 8
