After reading the article in the most recent issue of Motortrend about the Prowler, I decided to look back through my past issues for other articles and found one on the Howler (MT, December 2000). Although I don't like the look of the back (and think that most of you would concur), the thought of a V-8 engine and 5-speed is tempting. For those of you that don't already know, the Howler's system was put together using the Jeep Grand Cherokee's 4.7L V-8 and the Ram's five-speed manual. The differential comes from a C3 Corvette. The boys at Motortrend exclaimed how much better the V-8 was (both sound and drive wise). The Howler also had some structural enhancements that seemed to get their approval. After reading the article I got sort of a fuzzy feeling, thinking how much greater this is than the V-6's. Then I read the 0-60 time, not mentioned in the article but put in the info box always found at the end. 6.9 seconds!?!? My jaw dropped in disbelief. I went back and read a section of the article more thoroughly. 235 hp? The regular Prowler is more of a "Howler" than the Howler itself! Correct me (gently) if I'm wrong, but losing a SECOND in 0-60 time is not what I would call a step in the right direction. Don't think that I don't realize that the Prowler is a cruiser, I do, and I know that the sound of a V-8 would only heighten this experience. However, I do not understand why the journalists (who have failed to understand the boulevard cruiser idea in the first place) would dog the Prowler for being too slow for its looks but praise the Howler for two extra cylinders and an extra second on 0-60. What do you guys think????

On a different note, I wanted to state that although I have made a couple of posts before, I have not yet mentioned that I am only sixteen, and that the Prowler is my Dad's car. Ironically, I am much more into cars (including the Prowler) than he is. Maybe you guys could convince him to modify it? (I've been unsuccessful). Anyway, thanks for listening to my rants/raves and please give me your thoughts/concerns/opinions.

Gone once so far. Nearly got into a wreck with an outta control Eclipse on the way there (he was probably admiring the car a LITTLE too much). I'm going to try to get him to go more often though...

Unless DC were to offer a serious power increase with the addition of a V8, I would have little desire to replace the current V6 with a V8. Like mentioned, the V6 is lighter and produces more horsepower. The V8 may have more torque though, but it weighs more. It may be easier to modify for greater gains.

Since adding the mods (gears, exhaust, Intake System 2.1) I am more than happy with my car as is. It is so fun to drive and pulls stronger than my 5.0 liter Mustang did. I am considering adding a small nitrous kit, to give me a greater advantage when I need to flex some 3.5 liter V6 Prowler muscle.
