Hi Dan, looks like the real issue is front to rear length and weight. You thinkin DC is gonna step~up? That would sell some cars I bet. ------------------ |

Here is where I show that I know squat about engines... Why would you put a V-8 in there that uses more gasoline than the V-6 we have now AND it produces LESS horsepower? Or would the HP go up being put in such a light car? Just wondering. ------------------ |

Cliff, while the HP is important, so is the torque.Think of HP as the max amount of pulling power you have and torque as how fast you can get up to that pulling power. A diesel vehicle has lower HP then gas engines of the same cubic inch displacement(Not you Gary ), but GOBS of torque to pull heavier loads. These figures are adjusted by rod length, bore~stroke differental, compression ratio, and cam profile to name a few. Also, torquier engines are easier to drive with more power being delivered at lower RPM's. The larger displacement engine will turn lower RPM's and might bring the fuel usage close to the 6. The big thing is the sound. Like Larry says! "shudda had a V8". Hope this helps and I'm sure I left out some stuff. ------------------ |

Cliff, Torque is what moves mass and horsepower is what gives you high speed. The horsepower issue would be quickly resolved by taking out some of the air flow restrictions that are always present on a stock engine. A V8 would allow our Prowler to continue living. Al, You are correct. I did take picture of the side by side comparison. They are longer in size. The 4.7L is about 6 inches longer Later.... |

Well since width does not look like an issue and its only length then why dont one of you rich guys cut away the firewall a little bit and make it work. Id do it since it doesnt look too bad but then again i dont have the time or resources to do a job like that. I mean how much work could it be to relocate the items under the dash to make it work. And then again, there are accessories on a V8 that could be moved around. and you dont need the fan since you would have electric fans. i think it could happen with a little know how and money. ------------------ Amsoil Engine and Tranny Fluid |

Thanks for the lesson guys!! Dan - is that the same 4.7 they are putting in the Durangos and Dakotas? I don't think length is really that much of an issue - may have to modify the fan to fit the more narrow area of the prowler nose but think about how much room you have up there where the battery sits. I don't think you would have to cut the firewall - maybe change the way the front end is braced though. Dan - was it a V8 they had in that prowler at Woodward? ------------------ |

Cliff, I believe these are the engines going into the Durangos. As far as what type of engine that DC prowler driven by Jerry had, is unknown to me. He would keep closing the lid as soon as he noticed someone was getting close to figuring it out. After looking in my Prowler, I realized I have already pushed my radiator forward about 4 inches. I had to do this to fit my new larger radiator. I had the front brace redone and stretched. If I was to go back to my stock radiator and take off the belt fan on that 4.7L engine. I just might be able to fit that thing. Later... |

Yes, guys, this is the same engine that is in the Durangos, Dakotas, Ram and Grand Cherokee. It is also the same engine that is in the "Howler". Let's see.....does it fit? You be the judge! ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! |
