I would say roll the window up a bit and tape it to the window using double-sided tape...the window would be easy enough to clean!?

If you are going to hang the signs somehow, as JD mentioned,
consider lining the back of the sign with the fuzzy half of
velcro so the sign won't scratch the paint during the parade.

I had given a ride in a parade once also, and the guy riding along wanted to put the "magnetic sign" on my door also, same as for you. I said "No! It won't stick! The door is plastic" (I was in my Viper...) He tried anyway when I wasn't looking. Scratched the heck out of the door. The dumb***! When the sign wouldn't stay up, he slid it around the door hoping for some metal inside that it might stick to. A perfect shiney black door all messed up. Then he said "I guess you were right..." DUH...

Twitch, For the Opening Day Parade I made a banner hanger for the rear of the Prowler. I used a common piece of conduit, bent it 90 degrees as close to one end as possible and inserted that end into a hole in the bottom of the frame approx. under the driver's seat. The conduit then extends a couple of inches past the rear bumper and is bent 90 degrees upward (now U-shaped) to approx the top of the trunk where it is bent 90 degrees back to horizontal. The flag hung from that portion of the conduit. It cost about $2 to make. I spray painted it red but you would want it Black, of course. The flag slipped over the conduit and we used a piece of double faced tape to hold it in place. You also have to tape it or U-bolt it to the rear frame cross member. It is pretty simple if you have access to a tube bender. Andy posted some pictures of it. I don't know if this is suitable for your needs.
Here it is. http://www.rapachfamily.com/openingDay.html
The fifth and 8th pictures show the finished product.

thanks for your concern and thoughts guys but spoke to 2 differant auto body shops today and they said to go ahead and use masking tape and tape it on..the worst that could happen is tape residue and both guys said they have some commercial solvent (harmless) and would clean the door no-charge if needed. THANX AGAIN to a great bunch
