I hope to soon be able to purchase a Cold Air Intake. I remember Mike Gallaher had developed one, but there were some concerns about it sucking water because of the low mounting point. Has anyone installed Mike's intake and driven in the rain? Any problems? I saw some advertised
(though not for the prowler) with some kind of valve or gate to prevent water from being sucked into the engine.

That is a very good question.
I have the MAC air intake. Anyone know of water problems.
What about water puddles?? I have a turbo T-bird with the air intake in the from bumpers. Went in a puddle, and wham--seize...

What seized Sassy-turbo or engine? Sounds unusual.

Thank You Bill. I am still keeping my options open. I take it your Cat is a daily driver. I don't plan on driving my Cat in the rain but there is always that chance. Like at Woodward last year it rained the day we went to CAAP. Have you seen the valve I referred to. Seems to me your intake
would draw cooler air. Sorry I messed up on your name.

Rich - I have Bill's cold air intake on my cat, and have had no problems at all. I highly recomend his unit, as cold air in front of the cat. converter has to be better than the hot air (behind the cat). My highway mileage has jumped up 1.5 mpg, and the sound addition of more air into intake tube is awesome! I'm sold on it!

Al
The T-Bird turbo I had sucked the water from the intake and seized the pistons trying to compress it.

I wish someone will tell me why water injestion will seize an engine. Bend the rods, bow the heads, but seize the engine? For a piston to lock up in the bore a bucket full would have to be poured in at high RPM. This might colapse the dome causing out of round and seizure or the cyl walls would have to go out of round. Both are unlikely. Now if the heads are bowed and the coolant goes into the oil, this might cause the skirts to gaul causing seizure. Other stuff like the rod bearings should go before this though. I think the answer is that the water gets into the cylinders and if put away wet, the rings will rust to the walls. If you didn't bow the head, you would have to put the car away immediately after getting the water in it and let it sit for a week or so to lock up.This could be fixed by putting light weight oil or something like WD40 in the cyls to free the rings and a breaker bar on the crank to turn it over.

Simple, you can not compress water like air.

Sassy-no kidding that water doesnt compress-what causes the seizing though?
Bill-same question to you?
Neither one of you have answered the question- Come on guys, you can do better then the answers you've given-too general. Bill I've know about water injection for over 40 years-how old are you? ( I'm jealous of course)

Give it a shot Bill, might work out. I know the early Cutlass's w turbo had water injection. Think they mixed alky in too. My GrandFather's 3rd wife had one. 69 and crazy as a loon. I remember when it started detonating she would top off the underhood bottle. Think this was a 62 car too. Wish I had that one. 28 huh! Young whipper snapper hahahahah
I'll tell you the reason I belabor the seize point-I think you got BS'ed Sassy with the piston seize thing. It just doesn't make sense that water would travel uphill thru the turbo and do damage to the pistons that would cause them to lock up in the bore. No splash from the front wheels either as the pickup is way in front of them so hence the question about the deep puddles. Guess I'm bored-gonna go try to find more Larry Prowlers. BTW, bent rods would tip the piston in the bore-maybe that's what happened-but so much water????

Thanks onaprwl
Born, bread and raised in Detroit and 5 brothers, all car nuts. I love to do my own work on them too. Just a pass time, sort of relaxes me. My office is one big model car show room.

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it.
Sasy
