The total cash received from the Grand Canyon 50/50 drawing was $1068.00 according to GaryC.

The following is how the funds were distributed:

$500.00 to GaryC for payment of the awards purchased from Fallbrook Awards.

The following checks were sent out on Saturday May 26, 2001.

$200.00 to Phil Horvath to help cover his costs associated with planning events, producing and mailing his NorCal newsletter and to help offset some of the costs for future events. Thanks Phil for all of your hard work.

$100.00 to Debbie Angell. Debbie, Larry Salzman and Al Becker will decide how best to use it to promote and plan events for the Arizona Prowlers.

$250.00 to Roger Freeman to cover some of his out of pocket expenses incuured for the Grand Canyon Event. Roger did all of the pre-run, itinerary planning and much more for the event. Many bribes, tips and purchases were made to assure that the event was one to remember. Thanks Roger for all you do behind the scenes.

This leaves me with $18.00 which I will keep to cover some of my expenses for the event.

There will NO MORE 50/50 DRAWINGS at ANY EVENTS that I have a part in.

Actually Larry, $250 were my out of pocket expenses cause we spilt the cost the trophies, if you remember correctly.

And also sent CJ money's for her out of pocket expenses, also.

Larry....

FYI...monies were owed me for my out-of-pocket expenses for shipping the shirts, cds and goodie bags, etc. I had ordered the POA license plate frames and was told that amount would be deducted from the amount owed me. The remainder was reimbursed at a later date.

I have not received said check as yet but when I do, I will be returning it to Larry to help him off-set all the time he has put in with the planning for Crazy Horse. "Time" and the value of that time I am talking about. There are also out of pocket expenses which will need to be covered and I hope Larry is allowing for that but I would like to contribute to those also, if he has not. I was happy to help him with his CG event but do not wish to accept anything.

GaryC,
I do remember correctly,,,you stated that you wanted to do the Grand Canyon trophys by yourself. There were no trophys planned at the Grand Canyon event. If trophys had been planned, their cost would have been added into the cost of entry for the event and not taken from the 50/50 proceeds.
I said that I would split the trophy cost with you (both of us paying for them on our own out of our pockets because we were trying to get some money into the SoCal fund), you again told me no, that you wanted to do it yourself. Three weeks later, you called me and said that they were much more than you had planned and I should send you a check for half of the trophy cost. I did, the check was for $250.00. (out of my pocket) to cover the cost.

Before you left for Texas, you stated that you would send me the total funds from the 50/50 as soon as you returned. Three weeks later I get a check for $818.00. You were mad because I reminded you that the money was intended for the SoCal fund and not national events (as per our original agreement) and had decidied to deduct the trophy cost from the money intended for the SoCal fund. Not a problem worth argueing about but since you had taken the money ($250.00) from the SoCal fund before sending your check of $818.00 I felt it only fair that I also be reimbursed for the same amount ($250.00) that I had already paid to you for the trophys. This brought a total of $500.00 paid to you and left a total of only $568.00 as the profits from the drawing.

Please also remember,, that upon your request,, I mailed you another check (out of my pocket, not from the SoCal fund) in the amount of $200.00 to pay for my "gift" of the Valentine One Radar detector. Remember Gary? You called me, told me that you paid $450.00 for it and that only $250.00 was collected during the Grand Canyon run,,,you then requested that I send you a check for the difference. I did. Thanks Gary but please don't give me any more gifts. I can't afford them.

Cj,
I was under the impression that your money was taken out before Gary arrived at the $1068.00 number. If not please let me know if you are still owed anything and I will, take care of it.
Thanks for all your gifts and help with the event.

This is just my opinion, and I insist that nobody take it personally!

Whether I'm going on a 15 mile cruise to the top of South Mountain, OR a 1500 mile cruise to South Dakota, I'm personally NOT interested in ANY trophies or 50/50 raffles.

1. I have no room in my cat to haul a trophy, and they collect dust at home. Nice yard sale item for $1.00. Waste of money! Nice small window decal or plaque, is a prouder item to show that you attend and contribute to the Association.

2. 50/50 raffle is a trust and accounting situation. I wish not to doubt anyone on these, but we can see it happens. What is the point to have them? Going on the cruise and event is for having a good time, not digging in your wallet every other hour.

3. Scavenger hunts? Takes away from the cruise itself. Splits up the group, and questions and tempers seem to run high. The cruise is to keep us together and have fun, not splitting up and battling for a prize.

4. Vendors' gift certificates. Good idea here, the vendors can make their products known to the Association. Pull one winning name out of a jar from the owners attending, and this will eliminate multiple winners. I'll look and listen to them, and if I don't win their gift, I may buy their products in the future.

5. Charities. I feel charity donations are OK if: you are not felt required to give money or a fixed amount. I feel many charities waste the money given them and doesn't end up at the desired purpose of giving. Remember Jim and Tammy? I don't want to start a fire here, just my opinion, remember. There are many worthwhile charities out there, and one should help if so inclinded to do so.

We have assembled to promote the Prowler experience, meet and attain new friendships, and have a great time. When the main focus becomes the above items, we seem to be deviating away from our purpose.

I have said enough, and the above it just my opinions.

Larry S., you are so right!.. I just realized that the two main posts on this subject are Larries.

Larry L, you had to do a tough job. It is not only thankless one, but you always end up paying more out of your own pocket if you pick up the check, so to speak. Then you have to try to get everybody to pay their fair share.

I like the idea of giving some monies to "district leaders" (I don't know what to call them) so they can run the day to day events and mailings of newsletters. That's only fair. I know some people don't like the word "club".

Thanks Jim, for your vote of confidence.

I'll help clear the air on the word "club".
MikeK, god bless him, brought www.Prowleronline to the web last year, and many of us felt we needed a term to distance ourselves away from the other website, seeking PROWLER OWNERS with common goals. We concluded that the term "club" meant: you have to join, you have to pay dues, you have to accept the direction of the officers, and you have to accept their ability to censor what you can say (now changed). We came up with the term "ASSOCIATION", thus, Prowler Owners Association (POA). Webster's Dictionary says: Association = "to join in friendship of partnership, to bring together, to unite in the same body, to connect in thought". This is our goal: to promote the Prowler experience, meet and attain new friendships, and have some great times. We are human and have made mistakes, and hope we all learn from them. I wouldn't say we don't like the term "club", we just want to go down a different path. Hope the above clears the air.

My personal preference is to have people called an "Events Coordinator" with the region or state used as a preface. To me this conveys a team effort with one person being the coordinator. Arizona Events Coordinator, Northern California Events Coordinator and so forth seem like a good compromise.
Like you Jim, I also find myself sometimes stopping to think before saying "club" even though it seems like a natural thing to say. I would prefer to keep some distance from the word club when speaking of the association.

Titles really don't mean a thing to me. I'll go with the flow whatever they decide is best to be called.

Another thought on the "titles" thing.

I previously stated that we could use the State or Region as a preface to the "Events Coordinator" title.
I see no reason that it wouldn't work just as well to use the Event Name as the preface.

Indy Night Out Event Coordinator
Woodward Dream Cruise Event Coordinator
Cruisin' the Coast Event Coordinator
Rocky Mountain High Event Coordinator
All of these titles and others like them allow individuals to take on the challenge of planning and promoting the local events.
Another thought is that sometimes there are events within events. Examples would be the Woodward Dream Cruise and Make a Difference. Carol and CJ each have their own jobs to do at the event, taking care of their own parts but working together to put on a great event for the Prowler Owners to enjoy. I had a great time last year!
Other examples would be the Texas Drag Races and Hill Country Cruise or the Hot Rod Power Tour with stops in different cities each night.

By working together it only gets better.

I guess I'm the Crazy Horse 2001 Event Coordinator but I am being assisted by many people (Paul, David, CJ, Roger, George among others) in the planning of the event. Don Burnap, a local Prowler Owner from Rapid City has been especially helpful in doing much of the legwork and phone calls to make my job much easier.
It takes a team to make it work out right but someone needs to make the final decisisions and handle the financial aspects.

Larry is absolutely right about teamwork on events. Makes it so much easier and actually more for fun for all to enjoy.

Now I'm wondering, if Bill & Hillary join, will it "TAKES A VILLAGE" to control this group?
