Prices go up, then prices go down. Supply and demand. Market value, etc.

It's funny, if gas goes up a nickel a gallon, people freak and want to sell their Suburban's and get an electric hybrid car. All because their gas bill is now about $25 more a month. Then, six months later, when prices come down somewhat, they want that Suburban again. I guess ol' PT was right.

What gets me pi$$ed is 2 stations a couples miles down the road from each other are .20-.25 cents difference. What's with that? I can understand a ways apart, but this is ridiculous.

I wish it only went up a nickle a gallon - we are talking .70 a gallon here... geesh... it cost an extra $10 for each fill-up now...

Free market. You can say the same for the price of toothpaste at K-mart versus Kroger.

MY theory on the whole rising gas price situation is to not buy gas from the two top gasoline manufacturers. Exxon and Mobil. If you dont buy any gas at all from these vendors then if enough people dont buy gas from them they will have to lower their prices. And since you have been going to the other places to get gass then you can go back to mobil and exxon for gas but to compete the other stations will have to lower their prices too. Make sense?? But the key is to hold out from buying gas from exxon or mobil until prices are down to about 1.27 a gallon(nj that is since gas is 1.75 so adjust accordingly for area). Spread the word...maybe it will work.....

While good in theory, what you are suggesting really won't work for several reasons.

1) The price of gas is not set by greed (something
liberals would like us all to think). It has more to
do with demand and production resources.

2) At this time, over 60% of the gas we consume comes
from OPEC. So when their prices go up, so do ours.

3) Demand for gas has risen steadily over the years but,
no new production facilities were created during the
last 8 years

4) Where do you think the little guys get their gas from?
They buy from the majors cause they don't have any
production facilities

So when you buy from RaceTrack, you are probably
buying Exxon gas.

5) Approximately 40 to 50 cents of the price of a gallon
of gas is for taxes. The amount of profit for the oil
company is only 11 cents a gallon.

The government doesn't produce, market, nor sell the
gas and they get the lion share of the price. And they
call the oil companies greedy.

Write your Congressman and ask why they need so much.

1.57.9 in St Louis, Mo area.

Point to Ponder - Why does bottled water cost $4 per gallon (99 cents a quart, some less, some more). It comes out of a 'spring' and is bottled, and distributed. Some bottled water comes from municipal water supplies (per the label).
If I was to get into a business of 'buying, refining, distributing, and selling a 'liquid' --- think I would go into the bottled water business. No EPA problems, no flamability problems.
