Since the top on the Kat is cloth, it is water resistant but
not WATERPROOF and I understand that it needs to be
"scotchguarded" so to speak, once in a while. Has anyone
done this yet and what product besides 3M did you use?
Please offer any special techniques that you may have.

Much Obliged!

What overspray, the top waterproofer. I would plastic off all areas and then spray.

I did this right after I got my car. I used 3M's ScotchGard for Outdoor Furniture. Just make sure you leave it alone until it dries-don't touch it and don't look at. I thought I trashed my top because the top looked real faded until the stuff dried-then it looked just like new.
I can't really say how effective it's been though. I live in AZ where it never rains!

Why would you take the chance of ruining the top with something that if it was really needed , the factory would have done in the first place? Alot of these aftermarket products and things alot of you do, don't really make sense to me.I figure that if DC wanted to have the top WATERPROOFED they would have done it themselves.Or the aluminum bracing that i read about, to make the car smoother, i would think that DC would have provided for that if they felt it was needed. Just my opinion!!

I used the 3M Scotchguard when I first got my 99 Kat.
Since I had the vandalism problem, and needed a new top, I asked the top installer about waterproofing.....he told me no need to waterproof..they will not leak.

I have not waterproofed this new "German Sailcloth" top, and it does not leak.

So...Scotchguard will not hurt the top, but also may not be necessary.

The only advantage that I can see by Scotchgarding the top is that it would absorb less water and will dry much quicker after washing allowing you to put the top down sooner.
