I was waxing the hood of my Mulholland when I found 2 small specks of light blue paint from the pinstripe. They are in middle of the hood and not near the pinstripe. Anyone know how I can get this off without damaging the paint? I can feel the specks if I run my fingernail over them. ------------------ This message has been edited by cwatsonjr on 04-15-2001 at 05:04 PM |

Ouchy... I'm sure someone who is a painter will know how... but I suspect those drops are clear coated over... at least I hope they are... otherwise your stripe is not clear coated and it will come off! This would be a warranty fix with paint touchup... my dealer here can have this done easily, if your local cannot. ------------------ |

Todd ... Hate to burst your bubble ... but I highly doubt that the stripes on YOUR two-tone Kat are "clear coated over". The paint process is done well seperate of the assembly process, and my understanding is that the Good Doc did his "thang" after the cars were built ... thus ... as with any pinstripe job on a car, it is on top of the clear coat. To the guy with the specks, leave em ... Anything that you might do to rid yourself of these little annoyances may end up creating a bigger one for you. My 2 cents ... Prowl on !! ------------------ |

Try a Clay Bar. They are supposed to remove overspay, tar, etc. I've used them but have not experienced how efficient they are with overspray. They're only $15-$20 and will NOT damage the paint so it's probably worth a shot. I recommend the Clay Magic (blue clay bar). I bought the Mothers Clay bar first and it was horrible. Returned it for the Clay Magic bar and it worked great. Just make sure you read the directions. |

I used claybar to get black uncatalized urethane overspray off my yellow. Worked great using Zaino gloss enhancer as a lube. No scratches-what have you got to lose? ------------------ |

First, the pinstripe is not overspray. But a clay bar would work. If you are unsure about yourself with paint, take to a pro or your dealership should have someone that can do it. DON'T DO IT YOURSELF. If they mess it up, they have the burden to make it right. ------------------ |

Thanks everyone for our replies - I will take it to the dealer and have them fix it. I wish Dr. Ru were here on the board - he could tell me directly. Oh Well. SasyMama - since you are really good friends with him - maybe you could mention it to him and see what he says?
